Places and people to photograph in Bangkok?

Hi,

I am a student in USA, and in Bangkok for 3 days en route back to the USA. I am currently taking a class in introductory photography, thus want to take some good photos while in Bangkok.

Where can I find interesting people to take portrait type photos of, I would prefer not to limit myself to the regular stereotypes, e.g. street vendors in heavily populated tourist areas, ladies of the night and varying genders.

I also want to take photos of interesting places in Bangkok, once again, something more unique, off beat, yet reflective of the old and new of Bangkok...
I can also take a day trip somewhere if it would provide for more interesting photo opportunities

I am really sorry to bog all of you with so many questions, I hope you can help!

Thanks,
RJ

places: wat arun....grand palace....jim thompason house....prasart museum....odd archetecture around town...very different buildings....go to a university and befried someone local who will take you around......lkady-boy show at asia hotel....klong tour....
all of these will give you great shots...

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, I am really helpful. I just got in to Bangkok last night and have been on the computer all morning trying to find some shops that sell black and white film. I think I am going to have to scout around town to find something....as soon as I get film I am ready to shoot!

Do I need a guide or an organized tour to visit these places?....any suggestions on travel agencies or guides who can help...

Yes, I will do a search, but I am not sure if I need a guide to explain the history etc. I just need help getting around!

Thanks a lot,
RJ

Andy,

In my reply for you other post about buying B&W films I included a link for a local photo shop. Apart from selling top of the line equipments they have a photography clusort of) where they go out on photographic expeditions. Some of the best local amateurs and pros visit the shops as well as participate in these expeditions so you might want to drop by their shop for a quick visit (they often display the pictures too).

Again the link is: http://www.fotofile.net/

Try visiting the Central Rama 3 shop call "Camera and Lens" and talk to a salesman name "Nong".

I suggest going to the Hua Lamphong railway station. There is something about a travel hub like that one where there is a unique energy about the place. Some people are on a minor adventure in their lives, perhaps to visit the grandfolks. Others are in the process of changing their lives completely. Others are there for their routine daily travel. Families, couples, individuals. Some are excited and others are asleep on the benches or the floor. Excitement, boredom, anxiety, relief, reunion, separation.

What Bangkok has become today is due in large part to the people passing thru that station.
