place to stay between Udaipur and Jodhpur

Help, I know I am over thinking this, but I am having a hard time choosing a hotel between Udaipur and Jodhpur. So many people have made some wonderful suggestions. I am considering Rawla Narlai, Ranakpur Resort, Fateh Bagh, Kotri Raola and Aodhi Hotel. I just don't know which would work best with the itinerary which is tight. We will be driving from Udaipur, so I am trying to break the trip to Jodhpur. We want to see the temples at Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh Fort and it has been recommended to see the fort first and the temples second (since it opens at 12pm). If I follow this advice, it would rule out the Aodhi Hotel. It is impossible to find a map that is to scale so I can get a good feel for the distances. If it you, which would you chose? Thanks!

lisa, this is getting silly.

'...It is impossible to find a map that is to scale so I can get a good feel for the distances...'

Wha...? What is Google search? Google maps? Sigh.

Google maps seems to be wrong. It puts Udaipur, at some place called Udaipurwati, way north of the real Udaipur.

lol marija, yeah, strange isn't it? I tried to dial up Udaipur to Jodhpur for lisa and kept getting that other place. Try this:

http://maps.google.com/maps?sourceid...N&hl=en&tab=wl

hit the '-' button and look down, lisa.

At the risk of sounding even more stupid, I can not find Ranakpur and Kumb...ect on google maps. I know where they are but I can not find it listed on the google maps. It just show open space.

lol. O.k. - see the line where you type in stuff on the Google page? Right next to the 'search maps' button.

Type in kumbalgarh, rajasthan [or wherever you want] - click on search maps and there you go.

Now, once you get familiar with that, look up on the top left of the page under the Google logo. See 'get directions'? Click on that. Type in two places - click.

Now you can see the route, the km and the time it takes [use a grain of salt on the timings] to travel.

Have fun. You'll be busy for hours.

Also, use the '+' or '-' buttons running down the left hand side of the map. The more you zoom in, the more places there are to see.

You can also type in the names of hotels. Look, here's Rawla Narlai:

Here's Fateh Bagh:

worked it out? You can do the rest. Fun, eh?

of course, Google-confused people could go here:

http://www.deogarhmahal.com/locationmap.htm

scroll half way down the page and click on their excellent 'heritage hotel map' Copy it and steal it. It's a VERY GOOD map.

Well, I think I'm googled challenged when it comes to India. The last map you list works the best for me. I needed a big detailed map. Dogster, you are quite talented. I bet you could tell me how to hook my TV and sound system too! LOL! Thanks for taking the time to show me your different map options.

Jofhpur Fort is very good, Jaswant Thada is enroute fort only. The you can come to Umaid Bhavan palace, a small area of the hotel is open for public. They display vintage cars too.

Janta Sweet Shop in the market has a nice self service retaurant.
