Don't know about this particular bag, but last fall I saw a lot of good Prada copies (that's what I was looking for) in MBK, store was on 1st floor. Seems lots of stores there sell knock offs. Paid $20-25, I think.
The copies in the night market at Patpong were awlful.

Everybody knows handbags are a essential accessory-not just excess baggage! Real Prada Spygirl? I would have cried for days! Next time you're in Shanghai they have the best fakes in Nanjing Road right near the Ritz Carlton & at the Huating market. Prada, Gucci, LV wallets 70 yuan-cannot tell the diff between original & mine! Used my LV daily for 17 months and still going strong!

We were there in April and saw those bags at MKB mall. Not sure of the price as the wife did not like the style (had the belt buckle look and/or had a flower stuck on the bag or had the #1 or #2 stuck on- she thought it odd looking. Came back to the states only to find that this is the latest fad- now she is kicking herself for not getting a few!

You know I just came back to this topic to mention exactly what orgy beat me to !! Just a few days back when someone mentioned about CD/DVD fakes they got a blasting from many about 'theft' and I noticed that this has happened before, when it comes to Christian Dior or LV Bags and stuff everyone seems happy about it but when some Mega rich star goes on the poverty line because someone bought a copy CD it's a whole different ballgame.
I remember in the late 80's when it was tapes and they were 5 for B 100, locals listed to Tina Turner, madona and all and that music become staple music for millions of Thais, and plenty of those stars have done concerts over the years in BKK to huge audiences who certainlty became fans from getting the cheap music. When you earn B 3,000 a month to live it's a heavy price to pay to listen to some music!
Some poor sharholder of Chanel or Dior in Monte Carlo is shaking in fear that you won't be buying one of their Pink Handbags but a fake one!!!! Good luck and I'll keep a look out for them...

Where do you draw the line on when to steal and when not to? I guess Spygirl has her limits (no DVDs, purses OK). Do you have a certain monitary income limit where it becomes a crime or is stealing really OK? Don't know what line of work you are in, but if someone was taking from you illegally, would you complain or just say "I guess they can't afford it so it's OK"?

It was Spygirl's answer that was a bit of cheek. She was preaching how buying DVD piracy was stealing just last week and yet this week she wants a fake Prada bag. If I was rude I would suggest she was being hypocritical, but I'm not so I wouldn't dare.

It confirms what I suspected EVERYONE likes a good quality bargain fake!

Line of work is not impportant om this issue. For the record I was (now retired) a computer geek. One last question is how do you explain these subtle nuances (as defined by you)to your children or grandchildren. "It's OK to cheat and steal at little."? Hope you have eplained this to them. I feel if you can't afford it, don't buy it.

Might I suggest that this topic is way too complex to be properly addressed in this forum. Trademark and copyright infringement are or are not the cutting edge of cultural imperialism or not. The interplay of property rights and the free market is inherently situational ethics. It's easy to be upright (only by certain definitions) if you have access to money, goods and services. Somewhat more difficult, if you're not so lucky. While it's slightly amusing to debate the virtue/lack thereof of bootleg DVD's and purses, the same issue exists about drugs and medecine. Are bootleg AIDS drugs the same as bootleg DVD's? Is the artistic creative process more sacrosanct than Research and Development by a drug company? Not so clear now, eh?

But, FYI, I absolutely make a distinction between artistic work product, and knock-offs of clothing accessories, partic. handbags, which anyone can turn out who's halfway knowledgeable about using a sewing machine (that would not be Spygirl-sewing machines scare her!)and it can be amazingly designer-like, intentional or not! That's not true for one-of-a-kind artistic product such as music or movies-and so the term "pirated" as applied to these copies is partic. apropo-you don't seem to hear that term applied to fake designer handbags!

But it doesn't matter. I don't own one-yet I LIKE this thread and its catchy title!-It certainly gives me some ideas, and maybe I'll be looking at some of the better examples of fake LV, CD, even Pink Chanel when I pass through BKK in a few months!

And Lyndie-as far as my stolen Prada bag, no, I didn't cry, and wasn't really upset-I guess I must have internalized some of that Buddhist philosophy I studied at some point, the part about not being overly attached to material things or your life will be miserable (I have a Tibetan chest that daily reminds me of this thought-there's a mythical looking monster painted on the front with jewels flowing out of his mouth-symbolizing the dangers of greed!
