Phuket-Which Hotel is more luxurious-Dusit Laguna or Sheraton Grande?

I would appreciate feedback to help me determine which hotel to choose for a 4 night stay next month. I am concerned that the rooms at the Dusit are significantly smaller than the Sheraton and are not as new. I would also love to get suggestions for restaurants in the "Laguna Resort" complex. Thanks in advance!

We stayed at the Dusit about 6 years ago. It was fine (not out of this world though), and since then the rooms have been refurbished.

We liked the Sheraton and were keen to try it if we travelled there in the future. I'm not sure the rooms at the Sheraton have recently been refurbed though. The Villas at teh Sheraton are a definate notch up!

There are more good restaurants than you can shake a stick at in the Laguna complex - we particularly liked the barbeque at the Sheraton.

If your after Ultra luxury at the Laguna you need to look at the Banyan Tree Resort - but the price hike is significant - in fact very significant

I have stayed in both and think the Sheraton is superior overall, esp the grounds. As noted above the villas at the Sheraton are wonderful. I also like the location of the Sheraton better than the Dusit as it is in the middle of the complex, so if you want to visit the other hotels you don?t have so long a trip, and can walk to the Banyan easily. The shopping center for the complex is also located on the lagoon where the Sheraton is so that is more convenient as well.

The Sheraton has a lot of different room types and locations, so be sure you are comparing apples to apples when comparing room size. Also do ask at each hotel when the last re-do was for each room type you are considering.

The restaurants in the complex are all generally good. For a special evening, I like the restaurant in the lobby of the Banyan Tree, very romantic over the water location.

The spa at the Banyan and the Sheraton are very good, but you can book treatments there no matter which hotel you stay at in the complex.

We stayed at the Dusit Laguna in April this year, so I can only give my opinion of this hotel.

The rooms are pretty spacious and nicely decorated, but they were starting to look a little tired (we had to move rooms twice bedause of leaky roofs - and were finally upgraded to a suite)! Having said that, the grounds of the hotel are gorgeous, the food great - especially at the Thai and Italian restaurants - and the service excellent.

We walked up the beach and had a look at the beach infront of the Sheraton which did not look as nicely kept as the beach infront of the Dusit Laguna.

All in all, I would recommnend the Dusit as a solid 4 star hotel.

The hotels in Laguna Phuket are really crowded with groups. Actually I hosted a small group to the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket last January. It's OK. Lots of restaurant choices, especially in the Canal Shop area. The Sheraton has a great pool! The beach is just OK. For a nicer, more secluded hotel with a much better beach ( It shares the beach with the exclusive Amapuri. ) try the Chedi which is only 10 minutes away! For dinner one night try the wonderful Da Maurizio on the road to Patong !!!

Sheraton Laguna is supposed to be more luxurious than Dusit Laguna, which is reflected in the price.

We stayed in a lagoon view room in Sheraton in March 2003 and found it a bit tired. The Hotel itself, especially the pool and the restaurants, is nice, although we don't love it.

We also walked along the beach and visited Dusit Laguna. We found the ambience good but could not tell about the rooms.

One thing good about Sheraton is that there are a few beach restaurants close by that do not belong to any of the hotels (although you can also walk there from Dusit). The one that we liked is called "Lotus".

We also had a lunch near the beach at Banyan Tree and it was good.

December is the hight of the tourist season here,we have the Kings Cup on which is SE Asia biggest regatta,up to 100 yachts are expected, with all their crews, family, and hangers on,it's hectic even without the regatta.I would check any one of those hotels and see if they have available accommodation before waiting for the forums comments.
Good Luck
