Phuket weather in Aug/Sept?
 

I'm planning my honeymoon for the last week of August thru the first week of September of this year. The Rayavadee in Krabi looks amazing for the price, but I'm wondering if I'm crazy for looking during the rainy season. I'm thinking maybe since that time is supposedly when the rainy season starts, it won't be so bad...Does anyone have any advice on this? Thanks!

i'm afraid that this is not an ideal time to go here...any beach area quite honestly...

The Andaman side's having its wet season in August & early September but the weather’s delightful at Koh Samui (gulf side) at this time, so I recommend you plan your honeymoon for Koh Samui. Later in Sept' the rains will begin but August/early Sept is truly lovely weather. Early Sept' you may get a light shower here or there but it soon ends and the sun comes out. There are many excellent resorts on Samui that are ideal for a honeymoon.

Thanks for your reply TexasSlim.. I'm now looking at the Meridien Baan Taling Ngam. Any other luxury hotels on Koh Samui you might suggest?

Do a Google on Coral Bay Resort, Laem Set Inn, The Imperial Samui Hotel, Imperial Boat House. There are many others but have a look at those four.

Congratulations jugould. We too are getting married in August, in Ko Samui.

Take a look at this list which we have given our guests as possible places to stay:

- Sala Samui (but v popular with honeymooners as has private pools, would need to book asap)
- Tongsai Bay (private beach)
- Napasai/Pansea
- Muang Samui (again, has private dip pools in suites)
- Kandaburi (new resort opening soon by Kata hotels)
- Anantara
- Bophut Resort & Spa
- Santiburi
- Buri Rasa
- Renaissance (Buriraya)
- Rocky Resort (private beach)

You can find most of these listed on www.sawadee.com save for the Kandaburi which as a new resort is only listed in very few places and best viewed on the Kata Hotels home page. Sawadee also has reviews of the hotels and you will find many reviews for these on tripadvisor as well as candid photo shots. Also worth searching on here too of course

Ok, one other question, since Koh Samui is on the gulf side, does that mean the ocean is more like a bay, without many waves?

Yes, there are hardly any waves at Samui beaches (unless you go in monsoon season) but Thailand's beaches in general don't have much in the way of waves.
