phuket restaurant 50th birthday

My husband and his twin brother are celebrating their 50th birthday (Feb 2006) in Phuket with family and friend (20 in all). They are meeting in Phuket from other sides of the world (San Francisco and Sydney) and I would love a recommondation for a restaurant. Good food (ideally Thai but open to suggestions, and we would like it to have something special about it (view, beach, etc.) We will all be staying at the Katathani and as we have travelled for miles we are not concerned with the cost. I would really appreciate your help.

If you look towards the beach at Katathani, then look to the right end of the beach, there is a stairway. It leads up to the road and to Mom Tri's Villa Royale. There is a fantastic restaurant at the Villa Royale called Mom Tri's Kitchen. I think you would really enjoy the ambience of the place, and the food is superb. The wine list is also one of the best on the island. I've stayed at Kata Thani and Villa Royale, both. They are great vacation spots. Do enjoy!!

you could also ask your hotel if they would do something for you on the beach??

I agree with everything everyone else has said, for 20 of you though it might be well worth asking the Kata Thanis' F&B Manager/ess to arrange something for you at the resort, they could perhaps as Bob was suggesting set you up some tables in a nice area and lay on a special cake etc, it might be pricier than going 'outside' but easy to arrange.

Oh and you can negotiate a set/corporate price for a varied menu and be bold and ask for a drinks discount, I am 'certain' that the F&B ( Food and beverage ) dept will show you a range of menus with a fixed all in price for a group of that size!

After dinner you could all go together to the Phuket Simon Cabaret ( very large- 700 plus seats ), get a whole row of VIP seats ( they will pick you up in vans and return you ) and a great photo opportunity with the performers afterwards would add some great fun to make a memorable evening.

Thanks, it sounds like a great idea.
