Phuket in May- too rainy?

I've already booked a resort in Laguna Phuket for May- Checked worldclimate.com which displayed average rainfall for May as:

12.8 Inches or 324.8mm is that a lot of rain?

Should I choose a another destination?

Has anyone been to Phuket in May?

For May you'd probably be better off on Koh Samui. On worldclimate look up 'Surat Thani' which is nearest 'listing' to Koh Samui, I am sure you will find much less rain and Koh Samui has some lovely hotels.

Phuket is very wet all through into October.

We too are looking at going to Laguna next year - it looks great huh!

Anyway, we have decided to take the chance with Phuket during the rainy season as many, many people have travelled there during this period, and from what I can gather, unless you are only going for a short time, it is likely that you will get a mix of both fine days and rainy periods - mostly in the afternoon and evening & usually very heavy showers lasting only a few hours. I personally don't think that the "average rainfall" for an area gives a true representation of the actual conditions.

Check out the Phuket Travel Forum and use their search facility for recent comments on the weather.

www.phuket.com then click on forum.

regards,

nzers

may is fine! may-oct is monsoon season in phuket. the rain usually lasts 3-4 hrs in the day but it would be a relief from the heat!try going there during the hot(ter) season and you'd pray for rain. anyway laguna is a lovely area in whatever season. being a beach resort you wouldn't mind getting a little wet would u? enjoy!

I totally agree with Wayne, we spent our honeymoon there in June and although it rained heavily most mornings it was usually clear by 1 ish so it didn't spoil our time there at all.
