Phuket area hotel
Traveling to Phuket area for 3 nights in October. We want to stay close to a beach (walking distance) and close to nightlife. We are having a tough time finding a room to accommodate 3 people. Most will accommodate 2 and then tack on a hefty "extra person" charge, so we were thinking about just booking 2 rooms. We are looking for around $50 USD/night. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Most hotels in Thailand will only accommodate two people in a room. Booking two rooms will likely be easiest for you.
Takea look at some booking sites: www.sawasdee.com www.asiarooms.com www.agoda.com All are good booking sites. Read the fine print - make sure that taxes and service are included as you compare prices (adds 17.7%) and try to get a rate that includes breakfast. The busiest beach with lots of nightlife is Patong. October is typically rather rainy in Phuket www.weatherbase.com |
many hotels will allow one cot in the room as well for a small fee.

Green Harbor Patong and Service Apartment
168/46-48 Soi Nanairuamjai 8, Phungmuangsai Gor Road, Kathu Phuket, Thailand Good trips here www.otel.com from $35/nt 10% facebook and 5% cash back great deals |
Being low season, you will have no problem getting something that will suit. Many options are available with large bedrooms that accomodate 3, but they are not necessarily found on the booking sites mentioned. There is no need to book 2 rooms.
The Swiss Patong has standard rooms for 1500 baht for 3 beds. It is basic, but in a good location in the south part of Patong. http://www.swisspatong.com/location.htm Much nicer is the Swiss Palm Beach. It is located near the northern part of the beach and you could get a 2 bedroom apartment for 2000baht, only slight more than your budget. http://www.swisspalmbeach.com/englis...each-rates.php I could recommend many other options near the far superior Kata Beach area, but if you want lots of nightlife options, Patong is the place for you. With lots of cheap eating options, you may not want to pay for breakfast in your rate. If you are sampling all the nightlife, most breakfast buffets close between 10.30-11, so it might not suit, unless you want to grab a bite on the way home from a night out! |
I'd suggest staying at the Phuket Holiday Inn if you are spending some time on the island as a great base to see the whole region. The Holiday Inn Phuket, I dare say, is the best property in the HI system worldwide!
For reasonable rates, book under Steve sickles F&F rate posted here in previous threads. |
i personally would not stay in patong, but would stay in one of the other beach areas like kata...
HI is smack in the middle of the city/town and would be noisy, although it is across a busy street from the beach |
The OP stated preferences are "We want to stay close to a beach (walking distance) and close to nightlife." And the Holiday Inn Patong has a quasi-resort atmosphere, an oasis if you will, and yet across the street from the beach and walking distance to nightlife (10-minutes walk from Bangla Rd.).
My advice has always been to never be afraid to go to Patong Beach ... it's the nightlife capital of Thailand but they don’t jump out at single women and couples and it has good, cheap hotels, shopping and food not to mention "the playgrounds" at the beaches. |
Kalil,
The OP also said that they wanted to accomodate 3 people for $50 US a night. Is that is possible at the Holiday Inn? |
HI Patong is not available ... the lowest I can find in Phuket for 3 people in early October for 3 nights is the PHUKET MAI KHAO BEACH RESORT for THB 1,700 (around US $57 for a deluxe garden view) using this rate. Mai Khao is north of HKT, and has great beaches but it is about an hour drive from Patong and nightlife: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/rs/...rpb=rate&ias=y
Another option is Sea Blue Guesthouse with walking distance to both beach and nightlife. It comes highly recommended and a private room for 3 persons with ensuite can be had for a THB 1K. http://www.seabluephuket.com/ |
Kata is great. My hubby and I went there couple yrs ago.
