Phuket---PLEASE Help

Hello,
I am planning to visit Phuket for 3 nights/4 days with my significant other.

Can someone suggest some nice hotel which is not too secluded, yet not on Patong Beach.

We have tried the Banyan Tree, Amanpuri, BoatHouse, but those are too expensive.

Three possible options are: Dusit Laguna and Kata Thani, Andaman White Beach Resort. Anyone know if these are ok, or too secluded?. Which one would you recommend?

I look forward to your help.
Thanks
Andy

Try the Chedi, the most underrated resort in Phuket. Right next to Aman (in fact they share a beach) with nice bungalow/villa type accommodation, but half the price of Aman. The only drawback is many of the villas are accessed by going up and down a bunch of steps.

Kata Beach Resort has fabulous location and very reasonable. Also unless you are very against Patong try Club Andaman, huge gardens, lovely small cottages in the grounds, close to the beach.

www.patong-beach-hotels.8k.com

they have hotels all over Phuket, try the 'Hotel suggestions' page and they suggest hotels to suit budget/style. Also cheap Thai pices

As this is a travel forum where one exchanges experiences and thoughts, my opinion is to stay away from Phuket, very busy and ruined by unforgivable buiding speculation. I rented a moped drove all around the island to choose a nice spot, after 24 hours I fled to the Krabi area...

So the Thai residents in Phuket must live in mud-huts? Phuket is a popular tourist destination because it has a great deal to offer. Ao Nang Bay in Krabi is little different from say Kata or Karon, I don't see much difference. In Krabi province you can find remote beaches, you can also find plenty of them in Phuket if you look. Krabi will suit some, Phuket will suit others. If you want beaches plus masses to see and things to do in a vibrant travel destination then Phuket comes u with the goods, in my opinion.

Who talked about mud huts? I am simply saying that Phuket has been ruined by unnatractive buildings, good job that in other islands they have realized that mistake and do not allow to build more than 3 storeys high. What disappointed me the most was that when driving around I realized I could have been anywhere in the world, total lack of caracter. Its funny that on the bus we met another 3 couples that like us were escaping Phuket in search of something more exotic...
