Photos copied into paintings
 

I have read someplace (here? search did not bring up) that I can take photographs to one of the big malls in Bangkok and there are artists who can copy them into portraits. Anyone know about this? Which mall? How much? How long it takes? Anyone to recommend?

I would love to have portraits done of my grandchildren.

I can't remember seeing this in Bangkok, but you can definitely get it done in the Chiang Mai night bazaar.

I have never see this in BKK but it was big business in Khao Lak a few years ago. We had copies made of some Modern Art and they were really good. Many of the artists around were producing very good portraits working from photos. As Michael say CM is also a good place to get this done see http://www.1stopchiangmai.com/articles/painters/

If you are visiting any of the major beech locations I would imagine there would be this type of artist in most of them.

You can try the shops at the basement of Mahboonkrong. Haven't tried it so can't give you details. You could ask them to send it home for you?

Thank you. We will have one full day/night in Bangkok and then we're off to Myanmar for 2 weeks. We'll return to Bangkok for 2 days at the end.

I was thinking we could leave the photos at the first and pick them up 2 weeks later, hopefully, that would be plenty 'o time.

We're going to BMK anyway and will check there. We leave tomorrow . . . can hardly wait!

Um... MBK doesn't have a basement. Not sure where KMLoke means.

I saw this being done on the first floor of MBK, not far from the large Japanese department store. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Yes - on the groundfloor of MBK - if you go in at the end nearest to the BTS (Skytrain) there is the department store and after that these type of "shops" - I think there are 2 or are in a block in the middle of the floor area. We have had 2 photos copied - quite a few years ago, not expensive - they can also frame the work.
