Photographing old Japan

I guess from the response on this forum that there are no Geisha in the Tokyo area. OK, Where can I photograph the best of old Japan ( in the Tokyo 1 day area ), Temples People in Kimonas etc. June 16-19. Kyoto sounds great but is too demanding of time, body & $.

You might find this link helpful. http://www.japancorner.com/geisha.asp

To find "old Japan" you've got to get out of the neon and skyscraper areas. Meiji Shrine is often used for ceremonies, and on weekends there are more. You may see people wearing kimono there. You might try taking a trip to Hakone or Kamakura. In any case, you'll have to get off of the main streets anywhere and get into the older, residential areas.

While I understand your hopes of photographing geisha, please use good manners and ask first...before photographing anyone for that matter.
