photocopy of passport
just a general question to all travellers to china, has anyone been refused entry to any tourist sites etc in beijing where a photocopy of a passport has been presented rather than the actual passport, any feed back would be helpfull, fizz

Why do you need even a photocopy of a passport for tourist site?

Haven't heard of any tourist site requesting visitors presenting passports.

When cashing travelers checks, I always do it at the hotel where I am staying. Fewer problems that way.

I think you'd get total incomprehension if you tried to pay site entrance fees with travellers cheques. Pay in cash.

And get your cash from a bank in the wall - aka ATM - using your home bank debit card.

So simple.

I do still carry travellers cheques (some of which I have had for a VERY long time) but on the whole you get a bad rate of exchange and potential commission too.

So plastic is the way to go.
