Phone Calls to US from Thailand
 

Hi,

Can anyone give me information on the best way to make international calls from Thailand? My 19 yr. old wants to be able to call her boyfriend fairly frequently. If I buy a phone card at Costco, will they work in Thailand? Or is there a phone card that I can buy once we get to Thailand? I seem to remember reading something about call centers. We are leaving tomorrow night so a quick reply would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

buy phone cards at 7/11's in thailand or at other convenience stores....do not buy at cosco...

buy a cell phone at mbk once there and add minutes to it....you can buy used ones cheaply...

You have a few options.

You can buy phone cards at the 7/11 as suggested. They come in 300 and 500 baht increments and the calls are quite inexpensive. Often you can find a phone that charges .7 cents a minute.

There are a few different types of phones and phone cards. If you buy a Lenso card it will only work in the Lenso phones, which are yellow. I can't remember the names of the other types of cards/phones.

Another great option is www.gizmoproject.com! I found out about this download from a young student I met in Hanoi. If both your daughter and her boyfriend are on it, you can download gizmoproject at an internet cafe or hotel that has audio (headsets). You can call directly to a land line or cell phone in many different countries.

Another option is www.skype.com. Audio is also required but you can only do the free calls from computer to computer. You can buy credit through skype that will allow you to call a phone for a nominal fee as well.

The only trouble with phone cards is the locations of phones which are usually somewhere very noisy.
