Phnom Penh: it is worth it?

Good day everybody,

I'm thinking of taking Phnom Penh off our itinerary for Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia in Jan 2010. Can anyone out here point out that it's a wise decision? Is Phnom Penh worth a visit?

Thank you

I wanted to visit just because I like the way it sounds. But, the half day I spent there was plenty.

It's hard to say, it really depends on you and what you're looking for. I kind of like PP, but even I have to admit there's not much to see or do there. It's a nice place to relax for a while and slow down. I was just thinking of popping over there for a long weekend in December.

If you're trying to do three countries in nine days, then yes, you should probably drop it in favor of spending more time in Siem Reap.

I have visited PP a couple of times over the last few years and, like michaelbkk, quite like it as a place to hang out for a few days. The usual sights like Tuol Sleng and the killing fields are definitely worth a visit. The central and Russian markets are also worth a couple of hours just wandering around and there are some great restaurants and street food to be had.
Would it be in my top 5 places o visit in Indochina? Probably not, but it really depends on your itinerary and other places you are visiting.

In my point of view, PP is worth to see. Take an excursion to Tuol Sleng and Killing fields will help you understand more about history of this country. I also like a pleasant walk on the street of PP and observing sunset down by Mekong River.

There are many places to see in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, if your time is long enough, you should include PP. I would like to spend my time on Cambodia and Laos for historical and cultural aims and Vietnam for relaxing. I know that Vietnam has many beauty spots and famous beaches along its length.

Thanks for your advice. Will spend one day there then. Think it's enough.
