Philippines - Advise needed

Hi to all,

I am looking to spend 5-6 days with my wife around Xmas/NY in one of the high end resorts in Philippines for relaxation after a few weeks of running around other parts of SEAsia. I have my eyes set on the El Nido region and specifically El Nido Miniloc a Lagen Island Resort. Has anyone been? Would you recomend it?

Can anyone propose any alternatives? I was told that Boracay could also be an option but the photos of El Nido seem to indicate that its exaclty what we would like.

Thanks,

Personally I would go with El Nido. Boracay has a great beach but many of the properties there are not very lux.

If you have cash to burn then go to AmanPulo. You won't regret it. Boracay is higher mid range but I definitely did not feel the luxury.

I have not ben to the AmanPulo but to 2 other Aman resorts and promised myself on our laststay (Central Java) that at $1000USD with tax&service without meals it was just too "over-the-top.

IMHO $1,000/day excluding meals (or for that matter including meals) is throwing serious money away. No hotel room is worth that.

well again it depends what people are looking for. What are you prepared to spend to get exactly what you want. I have stayed in more expensive places because that is what I was looking for and what I got. Unless you have stayed in this luxury places maybe don't knock it until you try it. :-)

??? i dont follow kuranosuke?

Has anyone been to either of the two I am considering? El Nido Miniloc and/or Lagen Island Resort.

AmanPulo is definitely a bit too rich for my blood...

We have been to El Nido Resort, Miniloc Island. It's an all-inclusive resort.....rates include boat transfer, the room rate, breakfast, lunch, dinner and most activities like island hopping, snorkeling, kayaking or a 0.5 hr scuba diving lesson. Also, you can request to have lunch or dinner on one of the nearby islands, and they'll pack all the provisions for you including laying out a table on the beach. Nice!!

Our accommodation is a 2-bedroom cottage that stands on stilts over the water. We really enjoyed our stay there and we hope to go back. Highly recommend it. But Miniloc is more family-oriented. If you are a couple, Lagen Island is probably better as there are not a lot of kids around, plus it has a wonderful swimming pool. You won't go wrong in either. We were also there during the Xmas holidays and the weather was nice...blue skies and warm. It became cloudy only on our last day as we were leaving for the airport.

El Nido is definitely a good choice. Boracay is just sometimes too crowded and too overrated. El Nido Resort is a good one too. I hope you would have a wonderful stay there.

I suggest you push through with El Nido. While Boracay is also a great place, but it might be too crowded during the Christmas break. El Nido is such a great place and it is just as beautiful as Boracay.
