Phi Phi Island Village

You guys have been so helpful so far with info helping us plan our honeymoon.

We've got our reservation at Phi Phi Island Village for late November (used one of the discount room reservation services.)

The question here is: are we getting the best rate we can? The hotel advertises our room direct for about $280/night and we're getting the rate of about $250/night (incl. tax & breakfast) for a Beachfront Studio Bungalow.

I've noticed that reservation services such as Sawadee usually have a MUCH bigger discount available for hotels and resorts. This doesn't seem that big to me.

Anyone who has stayed there--is this a good deal or should I wait closer to the date to see if better rates pop up?

Any advice would be appreciated!

250 USD for a beach front bungalow? They've raised their prices too much lately!

Remember that tax and service adds 17% to your bill, so the Sawasdee price is a significant discount. Also, breakfast at these places tends to be expensive, so add (at least) another $30 for the value of breakfast for two. I figure at this point, you have about an $80 a night discount.

Also, you are going in November, which is moving into high season in that area. The rates are VERY unlikely to go down, at this point. Indeed, they may go up suddenly if the resort has filled enough rooms at the discount rate. I'd suggest you take a qucik look at the other booking services and see if anyone else has a lower price. In any case, book soon!

look at the price on www.huahin.20m.com and you will know for yourself..

rhkkmk,

Can you point me to where on the huahin site the pricing for this hotel is located? It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack on that website.

Thanks for your help!

beachsiam thru R24 quotes USD 248 for that room type in November, including tax and service and breakfast.

http://www.r24.org/beachsiam.com/krabi/ppisland/

That is the high season for Phi Phi. That figure also appeared on some others, exactly the same, with R24 you don't have to pay the whole lot now, just a deposit( varies from one night, depends on hotel ) and the balance a certain number of weeks before arrival, but it does depends on the hotel.

The discounts from hotel to hotel really vary on sawadee.com. For example the hotel where we are having our wedding in Samui doesn't permit sawadee.com to discount at all nor quote inclusive of tax. Hence, I think few bookings are made through sawadee.com but it doesn't matter to the resort as they are pretty much always fully booked. Perhaps Phi Phi Island Village is in a similar boat and doesn't need to discount that much for high season?

when you open the website....drop down the box at the top and select "krabi, ko lanta, phi phi....then in the next box (the one below it) the listing of hotels will come up...click on the hotel and it will come up... OR click on the krabi name and then hit "go" and the whole list will come up...hotels are listed by location

Personally, I would look into staying at the new "Phi Phi The Beach Resort" in Long Beach. It looks nice, gets great reviews, is much cheaper and a lot closer to other restaurants so you're not trapped eating mediocre food.

filmwill Jul 7th, 2006 02:07 PM

shlomib--Thanks for the heads up on the rate on atsiam.com. I'm banging my head against the wall because we already put our deposit down on the room with Sawadee, which was actually $250/night (slightly more.)

Does anyone know if the hotel reservation services are likely to match competitor's prices...or am I just daydreaming?

Just out of curiosity, what is this "Phi Phi The Beach Resort" that's been mentioned? I can't find it anywhere online.

Thanks again everyone for your help!

Phi Phi The Beach Resort is a new "resort" on Long Beach. I've heard the bungalows and pool are nice and it's much cheaper than Phi Phi Island Village. Here is a link to a site with some info: http://www.phi-phi.com/hotel/thailan...-beach-resort/
I recently stayed at Zeavola and felt a bit too isolated, even though there were a few other restaurants in that area. At Phi Phi Island Village, you are totally trapped unless you take a long ride by longtail to town, which I would never do after dark. When/if I get back to Phi Phi, I would much rather stay in a room that is closer to town or at least other restaurants and activities, even if it's a bit less luxurious.

You shouldn't consider any other hotel but Phi Phi Island Vilage -
Its the best place you can find for a honeymoon.
The hotel and service are great and is uncomparable to any other hotel in Phi Phi.
The boat trip to the main island is about 20 minutes and you can do that whenever you like.

Hmm, I missed the part about it being your honeymoon. You may like prefer being a bit more isolated. I'm sure it's also a lot quieter on that beach than Long Beach.

We're staying at Phi Phi Island Village. Thanks again for your input. Can't wait to get there!
