Pharmacys in Thailand

When I was in Thailand in 2001 I was able to purchase Xanax (for my long flights) over the counter at a pharmacy in Bangkok. Can one still purchase this over the counter? What about contact lenses?

Sorry, I can’t help you with the Xanax, but contacts, disposable or conventional are readily available.

There is a pharmacy across the street from Chulalongkorn hospital on Rama IV road. I was able to get antibiotic pills similar to Cipro for a fraction of the cost. This place is not very far from Dusit Thani hotel.

I found a great pharmacy that the Nancy Chandler people referred me to. It is BU drug store 163/165 Silom. It is right by the Silom Complex mall and is owned by a delightful man. If he did not have the medicine in stock, he got it for me within a few hours. He is very knowledgable about the medicines. I paid 1/3 the price here in the states.

Thanks for the info. Where can I buy the contacts? In a regular department store or a pharmacy?

For contacts go to an opticians. There are plenty of them around.

Thanks for the info. Are the contacts generally much cheaper than in the US?
