Petite Sized Clothing in India

I'm leaving on a first trip to India over the new year. My plan is to travel light and to buy some cute cotton salwar kameezes to wear there. The thing is, I'm only 4'9" and generally buy only clothes in petites sizes here in the States. Do you think my height will be a problem in shopping for clothes in India? TIA

For what its worth, my wife is 5'2" and is a size 2 - she made several purchases but also needed some alterations to get the proper fit.

Great idea tho be warned most Indian clothes are pure cotton as they breathe better so require ironing and hand wash as dark colours bleed. Re sizes. The salwar kameez is quite flexible as the salwar or pants tie with a drawstring and the kameez or top can be worn any length. You should not have a problem. Go to shops like FabIndia and Anokhi which do S,M, L and their small should work for you. Indian women are on the average 5 feetish.

hickorywind,

Since the average height of Indian women is not much more than 5', you should have no problems at all finding your fit.

Or you could easily have a salwar or two made for you while you are there.
