THank you all for your help and advice. It is worth so much. It is such a shame that the weather/diving will be so crap that time of year in Malaysia/Thailand because it seemed like we could have the perfect balance of peace and quiet, diving and activities eg SHopping for the bride. It may have to be a pacific retreat which I know will be great for diving and peace and quiet but I don't know about the culinary and shopping attractions like THailand.

When in KL it is really worth a 1 day trip with a driver/guide to the Cammeron Highlands. Yes, it is 2 hour plus drive each way but it is magnificent. If you get going at 7AM-7:30 you can spend 4 hours there and see nomadic tribes, tea plantations and tea factory, sometimes not operating, and be back in KL between 4 and 4:30 to avoid a bit, not all of the traffic. An english speaking guide/driver with an A/C car will cost $150-$160USD (no additional for gas) for 2 persons plus $15-$20 gratuity. What a lovely day if weather is good.By the way most Malaysians that deal with the public speak English on the mainland.
