yep rhkkmk is correct frommers it marketed towerds the mid tier travaler while fodors is a bit more upscale. blue book guides are for you intelectuals. I got this lilte useless knowlage from my past travel & tourism university studies.
maybe the pen isn't posted on fodors.com like a bunch of other hotels are not chosen.. ask the iditor.. |
As a confirmed Pen fan and former resident of Bangkok who lived just down the street from the Pen, my main argument for Pen over Oriental is the view of the city. The Oriental can't compete. I'm glad it's not mentioned in guidebooks - that means there's always a room available for me!

Lotus Blossom -
Maybe it's not mentioned in guidebooks, but if you do a search on these boards, you'd that "everyone knows about The Pen" - but I'm sure you'll still be able to find a room. |
this is kind of freaky. i found out last night that one of my nighbbors in the apt im staying in bkk is a freelancer writing the next frommers thailand guiede. but as we were talking i was a bit drunk and was on my way somewhere so i forgot too mention this topic..

The Luxe Guide to Bkk which is my guru mentions only the Peninsual as a place to stay. I must say my last few experiences at the oriental have been good but I am daunted after reading the feedback. i would go with luxe guide and vote the Pen! Sukhothai is also higly reco.
