Peninsula Hotel to Calpyso Cabaret: Dinner Recom
 

Hi,
Could you recommend a restaurant that's on the way from the Peninsula Hotel to the Calypso Cabaret....using the Sky Train. We could get off anywhere that's on the route. Most of the good restaurants I'm reading about are in the Sukhomvit area that's not really close. Thanks!

To get to the Cabaret, you'll have to change skytrains at Siam interchange station anyway, if coming from the river. Sukhumvit is about 3 stops (Nana and/or Asok stations) from Siam. It's close enough that I've walked it a number of times. Then, hop back onto the skytrain at Nana/Asok and get off at the first stop PAST Siam interchange station. Sukhumvit isn't really that much out of the way, if you have an idea for a restaurant in that area that sounds appealing.

You will have to change train at the Siam Square / Paragon Mall station so IMO that will be the perfect place to have dinner. What kind of food do you want?

By good restaurants do you mean fine dining, or just good food? Blue Elephant is right at the Surasak station if you want fine dining. Otherwise, I'd agree that stopping at Siam station and wandering around Siam Square or Paragon until something strikes your fancy would be an acceptable plan.

personally i think i would choose a restaurant, go early and then take a taxi from the restaurant to the asia hotel...

you could also get off near the four seasons and go to biscotti for dinner or spice market, both in the hotel.. also the conrad hotel and the hyatt are right there too as well as many smaller restaurants surrounding these hotels...
then just jump back on the skytrain or take a taxi...

you could eat in the asia hotel....what we usually do is eat a late lunch.....go to the 8PM show (1.5 hours) and then go some place afterwards, but many places close early, so you need to check....my favorite mid-evening place is crepes and co on soi 12, sukhumvit... lite or heavier meal... soi 8 is another good place to eat and nana staion is nearby...

the other possibility is to take the ferry over to the oriental, walk behind OP Place and go to tongue thai for dinner and then take the oriental boat to the skytrain and to the asia hotel.....or eat at the penn before you leave or after your return...not sure of closing times??

Thanks to all of you for giving me so many great options. The sky train map looks daunting, and I wasn't sure how long it would take to get places.

I don't want to eat at the Pen, because we'll do that another night. We're taking an afternoon cooking class at the Blue Elephant another night, which will serve as our dinner. I'm thinking of eating at Baan Klang Nam another night, which looks like its just down the river from the Penn....so this would be our night to have a fine dining experience. I'd heard about Bo-lan or Cyan...was also considering Biscotti (thanks to your previous recom, rhkkmk...)...or we could do Tounge Thai...too many great choices! I really don't want to wander around Siam Square looking for a restaurant when there's a show time to get to.

There's a new Steak house/French restaurant call "Artur" that my friends really like and has gotten pretty good review. The food and service was impeccable, according to a friend I trust, and I will probably try it pretty soon. They said the price was good too if that matter. Not too far from the Central Chidlom BTS station.

Italian, apart from Biscotti at the Four Seasons, I like to recomend my long time favorite Zanotti.

Thanks Hanuman, Zanotti looks good. I think I'll skip the American style steak house though...can get that at home.

negetive experience with zanotti....i had a reservation there two trips ago...on the day of the reservation they called and cancelled it leaving me looking for something else....

i do want to try it one day however...

i still rank biscotti very high...on our november trip one person in our party said it was the best meal she had for the two week stay... we go almost every trip and have never been disappointed...make a res however... good for skytrain too...

skytrain is very easy....its really only two lines which connect at the siam station, which is a major interchange...one line runs the length of sukhumvit and plenochit (really one continuous street) and the other lines snakes through the middle of the city from the river to siam..

all stations have names and you pay according to distance which is governed by numbers on the pay machine....

Bob's experience at Zanotti is not usual but reservation is a must since they are full most nights and in Bob's case they probably over booked - no excuse though. However, Biscotti you can probably just walk in since they are not normally full at night. Weekdays for lunch I would recommend a reservation.
