wow-- business must be bad. I'm going to check the Oriental to see if they have a discount for when I'm going -- am paying way more than in the past this year. Thanks for the heads up

In Aug 2004, I got a room there for about $145. breakfast included. Just called AmExp Platinum Travel and that's what popped up in the computer. Happy Travels!

Guen -- the best rate Platinum Travel has for the Oriental in Jan. is $267 without all the extras they throw in or $290 with all of them-- last year I paid $225 with all the extras so a big difference. I'll check again to see if any deals have come up but last time I emailed the hotel directly they said that Dec and Jan are very heavily booked so they doubted there would be discounts.

gloria---as a repeat customer they are taking on a service charge for all your past stays when you did not pay nearly enough....

Bob- the Oriental now knows that Gloria has locked herself into the Oriental and they know they can now charge whatever they like as she would not be caught dead in any other hotel! Its what they call a captive audience!

Maybe I should stay someplace else and let them know it. :-) Anyway- just left a message with AmEx to see if they can do anything. At least I'm pretty sure I'll get an upgrade which might ease the pain. That and the fact that my hotels for the rest of the trip are $50 and $75!

gloria---you can't take it with you...you will just have to cut down on new clothes from cotton house...

glorialf Nov 30th, 2005 05:37 AM

Bob-- I could also cut down on wine which usually costs more than dinner. :-) Unfortunately I have always followed the motto that "you can't take it with you" so have always spent beyond my means which is why there is no retirement in my near future. :-)
