Peninsula Hotel, Bangkok is Fantastic!

I just stayed at the Peninsula Hotel in Bangkok twice in the last two weeks. I don't understand why Fodor's does not list what is considered by many to be the best hotel in Bangkok. It sits directly on the river, across from the Oriental (which is nowhere near as nice). Although some may think that it is on the 'wrong side of the river', the Peninsula provides beautiful ferrys, which run from 6am to 12pm to take you across the river, and this may be the nicest part of the stay! The view on the river is always fascinating. The ferry also takes you directly to the Skytrain station on the other side of the river, so you can get almost anywhere in town faster than you could from a downtown taxi (because of the terrible Bangkok traffic). The views from the hotel are superb, the rooms are beautiful and the staff and service were the best I have ever experienced anywhere in the world. I wanted to post a rave review on the Fodors site, but since they don't list the hotel, I can't. But do yourself a huge favor and try this hotel next time you are in Bangkok. I am certain that you will find it to be as wonderful as I did!!!

Yes, but the Oriental is still better yet.

I agree with you, Arthur. The Peninsula is fabulous!

Haven't stayed there yet but after staying at the Oriental, in a garden suite, and recently at the Sukhothai in a deluxe suite, the Sukhothai rules!

Lynn

:-)

Lynn, my pet, why did you favor the Sukhothai over the Oriental? Was it the service, surroundings, location, food? Give John G a clue, darling.

I did have dinner at the Sukhothai and the hotel is really beautiful and has a wonderful collection of art. However, I don't think that the location is the best for getting around town.

As for the dinner, it was very good, but neither the service nor food were as good as that I had at the Peninsula.. The ambience in the hotel lobby is very nice... I can't say anything about the rooms since I didn't stay there.

My first comments were not meant to say that their aren't many other wonderful hotels in Bangkok. I just know that anyone that stays at the Peninsula will be delighted..
