Pattaya waterpark tragedy

A 14 year old boy has died in a Pattaya water park whilst trying to retrieve his swim goggles from a vent at the bottom of the pool.

That is really tragic. I have heard of similar incidents in Mexico - covers on drains not properly secured and people being hurt of killed.

Tourists and local workers both face the problem of a serious lack of health and safety regulations in Thailand, and even when there are regulations they're often ignored. The boy should never have been able to remove the grille. Very sad for the family concerned. Unbelievable how the only action taken so far was to fine the father. :(

A tragic accident ideed. Please, before you go stinking your finger at the Thais like Zeer above, let it be known that Pattaya Park is run by foreigners.

Who then runs it? Whoever they are they appear to have kept to Thai practices laws and standards rather than international standards.

Tragic indeed, crellston. There have also been a couple of young girls drowned when their hair was caught in spas here in Australia.
