Well I love that turnip thing - I think its was actually "lor bak ko" - its made from mooli (or daikon) with rice flour, water, and sometimes some meat/dried shrimp and then steamed - its quite a classic dim sum dish.
Not to worry though - sounds like Bob had lots of goodies on his holiday!

MichaelBKK Jun 29th, 2008 03:34 AM

Some Thai dim-sum restaurants label the turnip thing 'carrot cake' which is even more misleading. ;-)

rhkkmk Jun 29th, 2008 04:10 AM

as much as anything it's the color, the texture and the overall taste that are offensive....well offensive may not be the right word--off putting might be better...

michael---sorry to say we never had any of your coffee, but we did see what seems like hundreds of outlets...busniness must be booming...

DonTopaz Jun 29th, 2008 04:28 AM

wow, what a trip!

Femi Jun 29th, 2008 04:34 AM

Welcome home Bob. Even after a trip this long, you barely get your bags in the fromt door, and are already thinking 'Where next?'. A true Fodorite!

tnnc2 Jun 29th, 2008 07:50 AM

Bob- glad you had a great trip! Really enjoyed reading your report. We leave this afternoon (from Seattle) and will be at the Marriott Monday night. We all can't wait to walk out of the BKK airport and feel that 90 degree heat and humidity that hits you right away, and then go and swim in the Marriott pool!

Welcome back. That is one heck of a trip report, and a heck of a trip. It sounds like you really had a great time.

Just let us know how we can all pick up those small gifts you were shopping for - obviously bought for all us Fodorites who have read through this two plus month long trip report. Plainly, we are entitled to some kind of
prize . . .

Now, where are the photos you mention?

rhkkmk Jun 29th, 2008 12:00 PM

ladytravels Jun 30th, 2008 02:15 PM

What a great report. Such useful information within these lines.
Thank you Bob for all your time and your stellar work!

Gpanda Jun 30th, 2008 02:57 PM

"stellar work"? You're kidding. Even he doesn't need this flattery. The best part of his trip was spent with the Pandas.

rhkkmk Jun 30th, 2008 05:39 PM

sad to say but one of our highlights was the time we spent with mrs panda

DonTopaz Jul 1st, 2008 01:45 AM

Don-it's sad, but apparently you have way too much time on your hands and a ridiculously active and twisted imagination.
