Paging Hobbes from Guenmai
Hobbes...hope all is well with you. I have posted a description of the new renovations of the Four Seasons under the thread, Boston GTG. Just scroll down to the very bottom.Have you stayed at the Raffles in Singapore yet? If so, how was it? I'm at the FS right now. Take it easy. Happy Travels!

Hi Guenmai, glad u told me re your post as I have stopped opening the Boston GTG thread - it is so long!! We stayed at the Raffles PLaza for 4 nights in July and I loved it. I think the Ritz Carlton is still my fav but I was happy to discover another S'pore hotel which could be my future back up! I liked the mall next door where I went for b'fast couple times, the walkability to the Esplanade, the service, being opposite the old Raffles and CHIJMES. The rooms were comfy too.

Hobbes, just a quick note...
you can jump to the latest post on the Bos GTG thread by clicking on the "jump" note at the top of the listings. You don't have to scroll all the way down (that would take forever). Carol |
Hobbes...Glad you had such a nice stay at the Raffles Plaza Hotel. I walked by there just a few days ago. I thought that you were going to be at the Raffles Hotel. The Raffles Plaza looked very nice and the location is great...being right there at the Raffles City Mall...British India store and Jason's supermarket! Maybe, I'll give it a try. I'm still at the Four Seasons enjoying myself to the max. If I bring my mom on vacation in the spring,I'll probably stay a few nights at the YMCA International House Hotel where I usually stay and then upgrade her to the Ritz Carlton with a harbor view which, as you know, is amazing. Then in Bangkok maybe one night for her at the Oriental and then back to the Four Seasons. I was out all day yeaterday searching for a serviced apartment... for my 3-week December vacation and I finally found one yesterday. I've chosen the Emporium Suites. I went to the Somerset Suwan Park View which I really thought was going to be the place. I loved the location and the street it's on, but the "interior feel" wasn't right for me...you know what I mean.I really felt like I would be living in someone elses place. It was a very nice place, but it felt too "masculine" for me...like the Pen felt to me. The Somerset felt like a businessman's place. So, I went over to the Emporium Suites and had an appointment with the sales manager. She was very nice. As soon as she opened the door to the 67/68 square meter studio, it took my breath away. The interior design was wonderful. It was light. Light is VERY important to me...it must be a California thing... and the view was breathtaking. I was then shown the 80 square meter studio which I also loved. So, I'll be going for that sized apartment and also have a washing machine hook up done. Today, I'll check out the Ascott-Sathorn out of curiosity, but I'm booked for the Emporium Suites. As of Nov 01st, there will be a price increase, but I have been locked in at the present price, plus was given a discount in our negotiation. Oh,as Carol pointed out, you can click on "the most recent post" section and then it will go to the bottom of the Boston GTG thread. I didn't know this until someone told me a few weeks ago. I had been scrolling all the way down. Well,I'd better go. Internet useage is very expensive here at the hotel. Take care. Happy Travels!

guen---have you looked at the centre point...one very newish one they aquired last year on wireless rd...also the marriott mayfair sort of in back of the four seasons...it was the best we saw, but probably the most expensive...there are soooooo many...loving your reports...you need to get to a cheap internet!!!!

Really like Emporium myself Guenmai - stayed there for 2 motnhs when we moved to Bkk couple yrs ago and more recebtly for a week. First time we had an apartment and this time the studio I think you are referring to. Great pool and gym too. Sure u will love it! I had earlier thought of being at the old Raffles then we were advised it is not a good biz hotel and my partner weas on biz so we switched to Raffles Plaza which I was very happy with. Nothing to beat soaking in the Ritz C bathtub with the marina view tho but this came close!

I just visited the web site for the Emporium Suites. Very nice!! Looks like a good choice. I would suggest that you check out the Grand President one bedroom apt, but the location is not as good as the Emporium. Are you returning to LA on Monday? I noted you said you were leaving BKK then, or do you have other SE Asia destinations yet? Enjoy your visit, and keep up the good reports. Carol (the Omni, where I will probably be staying in another 3 weeks time, is or WAS free wi-fi in the lobby, but I have to bring along my own computer.. I can only hope they have not begun to charge for the service) |
I'm awaiting your report on all the serviced apartments you looked at plus any info from the realtor.
|
It's Monday, and I'm still at the Four Seasons in Bangkok and will be flying back to L.A. VERY early in the morning so the FS has reserved me a car to take me to the airport. I'm still on the expensive FS internet's computer so if I make typing mistakes PLEASE excuse them. My fingers are moving VERY fast. I went on the Mr. Magoo wild goose chase for a condo yesterday and also another serviced apartment....go to the Boston GTG thread. I'm going over there to give a full report of yesterday's escapades! Happy Travels!
|
I JUST finished typing all of the information under the ,"Boston GTG" thread...now, I get to go and pay my internet bill for 2.5 hours of computer use now. So no dinner tonight! Smiles. Happy Travels!

Bob...to answer your above questions...no I haven't checked out the places you've mentioned although one I could see from my room at the Oriental...I think it was the... Centre Point serviced apartment building. I'm really worn out...mentally... from running around town...looking at and searching for all of these places.Plus, I've been mostly doing this by foot and skytrain. So, the feet are a bit blistered to say the least! Now, it's time to relax before flying out tomorrow. I've gotten an incredible amount accomplished in 4 of the five days here in Bangkok. Now, I need to wait for Cotton House to deliver my new garments that they are making for me.Who knows, maybe they have already arrived and the concierge might have already had them put in my room. I've been on the computer for nearly 3 hours now. I had my own computer stuff to do, plus the forum reports to write. Happy Travels!
