Packing List
 

I will be traveling to southeast Asia Oct. 25-Nov. 13 and would like suggestions for a packing list. I will be traveling to the usual sites. Each of the hotels will have laundry service. Thanks.

cotton or linen clothing
long sleeve shirt, white, to protect from sun rays
deet lotion, spray etc
pack about 1/2 of what you usually take
extra suitcase for shopping
plug adaptors
bathing suit
sun block
tops with short sleeves (women) to wear in temples
remove all revealing clothing
slacks
comfortable and supportive shoe--socks
remove anything dressy
one decent outfit
a smile and sense of humor

I always carry the travel sized rolls of toilet paper. I get them at places like Target and Kmart. You can never be sure you'll find tp in the restroom.

Sometimes we take "travel sized rolls of toilet paper." When a regular roll gets down to a resonable carry size, I flatten it. ((*))

"Borrow" a roll of toilet paper from your hotel, a half used roll. Step on it to flatten it out to fit your bag a little easier. Also bring some hand wipe (baby wipe things) with you. Big C and Watsons have these hand wipe things real cheap in Thailand. The ones from Big C are in individual wrappers - good and cheap!


Take advantage of a fairly clean toilet when you are on tours. The next opportunity may be an emergency stop behind a tree with locals laughing at you!

You can actually buy your suitcase or bag in Thailand if you want. Also, large items can be mailed through the local post or sent by Fedex or UPS from Thailand to your home.

Wear a ball cap, the normal way with the bill forward! This will shade your eyes, keep rain off eyeglasses and protect your eyes from low hanging "pointy" things that could poke your eyes out! Since many Farangs (foreigners) are usually taller than locals, hangy down things are high enough for locals to walk under but low enough to hit your hat before poking you in your eyeball!

Use the security box in the hotel to safeguard your valuables and cash. It is not only the hotel staff that may rip you off, the fellow tourist next door may be a thief!

Of course, don't bring granny's heirloom items or anything you would really cry over if they came up stolen or lost!

When flying on planes, on buses, on trains - keep your valuables with you at your seat! Do not put money, computers, Walkmen, telephones, prescription meds, passport, plane tickets, etc. etc. etc. in your check in bag!

If someone in your party has large sized feet, like me (size 12,) bring a spare pair unless you want to spend big bucks for a new pair in a yuppie type store! Big sizes like size 12 shoes are not easy to find in many parts of Asia!

Thank you for the suggestions....very helpful. Perhaps you can tell me why close-toe shoes are always recommended.
