OUTRAGEOUS transfer costs HK. help please

We are staying at the mandarin oriental beg of Jan 08 on our way home from 3 weeks in Oz. I asked my travel agent to contact the MO about airport transfers... today she came back with their quote £129!!!! which i personally think is OUTRAGEOUS. I have used the Pen and MO cars in BKK i was more than happy to pay their charges even though they were much more expensive than local firms etc. Whilst i appreciate BKK is a lot cheaper MO HK is more than double this. I really do like using the hotel transfer services as i find them very convienient but i just feel this is way to dear.
Does any one have a web of a good limo company i could use for my airport transfers or is £129 the going rate??
Would prefer to take something direct and not have to think too much when we come off the flight (i have used the HK express before but not sure the BF would want to)
Hope you can help

It is not outrageous because the car service provided by MO or the Peninsula is a true luxury, exclusive service. Hong Kong is not BKK where a hotel car service is the normal way to get from the airport. People who use the MO or Pen cars don't really care about cost.

Anyways, you can take the train, you can take a taxi, and you can use one of the two licensed airport limo service listed here:

http://www.hongkongairport.com/eng/a...limousine.html

Parklane quotes $480+ for a airport to HK Island transfer in an older Mercedes S320, which is not much more than a taxi. $550+ for a newer one.

BTW, this sounds nice. From the hotel's website:

VIP concierge service

To ensure a smooth and stress free arrival, we can arrange for our airport concierge to greet you the moment you step through the airport gate. You will be escorted through immigration, baggage collection, customs control and they will assist with your preferred transportation arrangements. Guests arriving at more distant gates will be taken through to immigration on a golf cart. If you would like to take advantage of this service please confirm with your booking, the charge is HKD 250 per person.

We took a taxi from (and to) the airport in January. Simple, fast and a very clean car. No confusion or hunting for the taxi area either. Cost about HK200+ if I remember correctly.

thanks both for your replies. I still think its expensive, as i have said i have used the MO/pen service at other hotels around the world and have to agree the service is true luxury i just think the diff in price from say BKK is huge so i guess i am one of their guest who does concern myself about the cost.
i will check out the web address posted
again many thanks

Oh, it's definitely expensive! No question about that. But there's no outrage as I guess there really are people who don't care about the cost! :)

I recently got a top of the range mercedes collect me form the airport and take me to the Grand Hyatt. I paid US$ 100 each way.

I think 129 pounds is way over the top

I suppose that someone paying US$100 to stay at the Holiday Inn or Eaton would characterize the price of a night's room at the MO as outrageous. It's all a matter of perspective.

I used the 4s airport service in December. I don't think it was that expensive but really helpful coming from a flight from the US. When we returned to HK from Vietnam (shorter flight, no jet lag) using a taxi was just fine. I don't know where Oz is, so if not a long flight I would recommend a taxi.

we used Parklane Limousine a couple of weeks ago the same one that rkkwan gives the web address in the second post of this thread. Great service and a lot less than 129 BPS.

Aloha!

Thanks guys
am going to give parklane a try.
Its funny really i am happy to pay whatever it is they are charging me for 3 nights there, but some things i feel are as Bob put it "over the top"

Elanee we are coming from Australia, so a longish flight.
Thanks again
