our central vietnam family trip

My wife, 2 kids (7 and 5) and I plan to visit Central Vietnam in June. Here's our plan...hope you can give your comments an suggestions :

Friday 3pm Arrive in Danang. Rest, relax and explore Danang.

Saturday after breakfast Rent a car and driver to go to Hue. Pass by Hai Vahn Pass and swim in Lang Co Beach.
Picnic lunch ? Or find a meal somewhere along the way ?
Get to Hue by 3pm ???
Go on late afternoon/evening boat ride in Perfume river and visit some tombs/temples ??? (or
should we do that the day after together with Citadel/Imperial City ??)

Sunday Visit Citadel and IMperial City with a local guide

Monday Take 1020am train back to Danang. Arrange for car to bring us to Hoi An from Danang
Explore old town

Tuesday More of old town / go and enjoy the beach

Wednesday Arrange for My Son tour (early am)

Thursday Chill out at the beach

Friday 12noon leave Hoi An for Danang to catch 330pm flight out

Some questions :

1. Are there any tombs/temples you especially recommend ?

2. Do you recommend Vinh Moc tunnels ? Even for the kids ? My 7 year old son heard about the HCMN tunnels at school and wants to see them!

3. Anything we missed ? Though we want it to be a relaxed trip where we can rest and chill out some time, too

THanks

Eric B.

Have you thought about taking the train from Danang to Hue. It is one of the most spectacular train journeys in Asia. I have done bot the road and rail trips and much preferred the train. I am sure a 7 year old would love it.

We stayed in Hoi An for 3 nights and took a trip to My Son one afternoon but we were not that impressed. We did a half day cookery class with Red Bridge cookery school on another day and found it good fun (even though my husband was dreading it)

We spent 5 nights in Hoi An Dec. 2011 and had a wonderful time there despite the fact that it was not beach weather. Some things that we did, a street food tour and cooking class, may or may not be something your kids would enjoy ( our kids are older), but we also did a bicycle tour that I think they would enjoy. It was with Heaven & Earth Bicycle Tours and we did a half day tour where we took a boat across to a large island and then rode around there. Very flat, and no motor vehicles so an easy ride for families. We loved our guide and saw many interesting things. I believe you have to be 6 to ride your own bike, and under six can ride in a bicycle seat as passenger. Here is a link to my blog with more details and pictures:
