Orchids

Is it ok to buy Singapore Orchids at the airport for my onward trip to Brisbane as I would like to buy them as a present.

I'm almost certain it will not be okay. You can't bring in any live plants or flowers to Australia, and they're pretty thorough about this.

I haven't done it for a few years but I've never had a problem bringing them in. No need to tell you that you MUST declare. What Customs will do is take them out of the box and spray them before giving them back to you.

I sincerely doubt you can get flowers past Argicultural inspection in Australia.

I just moved to Australia - prior to packing our household shipment I'd thoroughly cleaned out any items I figured would present a problem,
but they still managed to find some things which they promptly confiscated and destroyed.

Take a look here for details on what you can and can't bring and DECLARE everything:

I declared a lei made from Singapore orchids at Sydney Airport , coming back from Hawaii a few years ago. I wasn't expecting to be allowed to keep it, but the Customs Officer said it was OK.

It was inspected, and allowed through. Good luck! If they are inexpensive flowers, it's worth a try, I think.

I THINK there is that fine line of where they came from Oz customs will check everything and defineately declare them. I have got off a Thai flight in Melb with the orchid they give you as you board pinned to my shirt and they have said that is fine.
