I saw Angkorvillage on another post and yes, it looks lovely.
And seems to be a really good location.

As with everything else in scheduling, I know everyone always says "more time", but any days I spend there I'm "stealing" from Thailand otherwise. I'm wondering if I arrive fairly early in the morning and spend two nights giving me basically two days is fair. I know three would be better (and a week would be better still), but when I look at the rest of Thailand I don't want to cut them either. I'm now looking at a total of 14 nights for Thailand -- including Siem Reap. I need to start organizing my intinerary for those two weeks as well.

I can highly recommend the Shinta Mani, the Victoria Angkor(best pool) and La Residence-all can assist in hiring a guide, driver or Lori can help with that also.

The cheap rate shows as 10310 bath in september but when you go to book it you can;t get a return flight. Only the higher priced flight at 11815 is available.

A good good modest priced hotel that I always use is the Bopha Angkor. Good location and nice pool,

Yes, hotels will be able to help with arranging for a driver and guide. There's also a travel agency right downtown... one street over from the market, if memory serves.

I would do it on my own with help from the advice here. I have been here in Thailand for the last 3 weeks and we made virtually no plans before coming but the hotel for the first night. Every tour or sightseeing ventured is so easily arranged through the front desk of the hotel or on your own when you get here. We are heading to Hanoi tomorrow and the flights are not expensive. There are some excellent guides recommended on the forum or you can always book with a small group when you get here.

Well, I did the OAT add on trip to Angkor Wat and really enjoyed it. There were only 6 of us in the group and I felt that we saw the major sites. Also had enough flexibility that our guide was happy to take us some other places not on the itinerary. I'm glad I did it.

Factor into your expenses the $25 visa charge when entering, and the $25 "service charge" when leaving. We knew about the visa charge (we paid in advance) but we were surprised (as were most of the people at the Siem Reap airport) by the departure charge (tax? levy? exit permit?) .

Lynnie, the more I study all this, and see the cost of the air fare from Bangkok, the whole idea of the small group (like 6 of you) with a local guide for 3 plus days really sounds like the ideal to me. But now I'm committed to returning at the end of that VietNam tour, so I'll have to do Angkor Wat on my own before it.
Several of the hotels linked above really look lovely by the way. All I have to do is pick one.
