One night in BKK & ? airport

I know the new airport opening will happen when it happens but....we will be arriving in BKK in mid Oct & have one night before flying to Siem Reap. We arrive at about 1030am and will leave about 230pm the next day. I was just going to book a hotel in town that one night assuming that even if there is a bit more travel time from the airport it will still be OK. Any opinions on this??? Also does anyone know if Bangkok airways will be flying from the new airport if it is open or are there plans to keep some at the old location??
Thanks in advance J

I agree that it makes sense to go into town for your one night stay.

My understanding is that all flights will move to the new airport. I expect JamesA may have more recent info on this.

Jules,

There are several conflicting report in the local newspaper about when the actual opening date of the new airport will be. The opening dates varies, according to the newspapers, anytime from July to December of this year.

Frankly the travel time from any hotel with a good access to the expressway or tollway will be fine, especially for a 2.30pm flight.

Forgot to mention that there's a rumor that all the low cost airlines will remain at the old airport. BKK Air, not a low cost airline, will be at the new airport when they are open.

i am told that the old airport will shut completely to passenger travel...but this could just be another urban myth....

in any case, yes stay in town that nite...much more comfortable and a good dinner also....so important when making a transition...make sure you do go to the airport early if it is at the new facility, because i am sure there will be all kinds of delays as people adjust to the new place....

Thanks everyone. That was our plan so I think I will just go with that.
Happy travels
J
This may be a silly question but apart from reading the info in this board or somewhere else will there be any indication on my ticket that we will fly into the new airport or do you think the airline will notify us closer to the time (since they will not know when I actually buy the tickets) Or will I land and walk out and think well this does or doesn't look familiar?!!!!

I'm going in November and wonder whether we'll land at the new airport. I'll let them surprise me!

Kathie-how cruel to use a word Bob has no chance of understanding. His dictionary only has pictures. I suspect he believes there are prescient jewels.

On our flight to BKK in November, I figure I'll arrange for airport pick-up and let them figure out which airport. The only difference would be if you're attempting to pre-book a hotel near the airport.
