Okayama Korakuen OR 2 extra hours in Kyoto

Should I stop on my way back from Matsuyama, or just keep going (since I will have seen Kanazawa Kenrokuen) and gain 2 hours in the afternoon in Kyoto?

Depends on how into gardens you are. They are quite different.

I was there in November a few years back, at a time when the fall leaves were magnificent in Miyajima and in Nara, and was disappointed. It's much more open than the typical Japanese Garden--more Western-looking, with lawns and flower beds, and not that attractive to my inexpert eye. There's a nice view over the lake to the (concrete reconstucted) black castle across the river. I assume you know that Himeji (finest castle in Japan) is only a few miles further along the line.
