So...
Can we safely say Elephant Bar, Marriott Resort, 3:00ish, April 24th? I'll be coming "down" from Sukhumvit and will try to allow myself plenty of time. It looks like 4-6 of us? Leigh Travel Club (2), Evelyne 1 or 2?), myself, and DS Brad, if he can drag himself out after a late party the night before. I'll do my best to encourage him.
Looking forward to making more connections w/fodorites!

Kuranosuke - this trip is through the American Chamber, but I will see if they have anything organized or any relationship with a tour company. In theory, I think you can just show up, but you'd need a car and driver who knew how to get there.

click on the "Wine Tourism" button. They, Siam Winery, can make their wines in private labels for you - the Chateau Kuranosuke!

Before this post drops off of "page 1" I'll ask if there is anyone else interested in getting together at the Marriott Elephant Bar, 3:00pm on Friday the 24th of April. I think there may be some other fodorites in the city.... ?

On Nut is the "last" skytrain station on the Sukhumvit line. If you are near that station, you will be OK. Other than that, On Nut is pretty remote, pretty far away from the rest of Sukhumvit.
There is a Big C or some other big box store at the On Nut station, so you are not without shopping for basics.
The Jim Thompson Outlet (fantastic Thai silk items) is near the On Nut station. I can't recall which soi number.
I'll have to pull up a Bangkok map to see just how far out soi 77 might be.
Hope to meet up when you are in BKK!

I just looked on my Nancy Chandler map of Bangkok, and I see that soi 77 runs nearly "through" (under) the On Nut station, according to the map. Soi 77 is a very long street, so you may or may not be close to the station.
If this is your first trip to Bangkok, I think you are staying pretty far out of the way. That's just my own opinion.
In any case, if you can get to the On Nut skytrain station, then the city is easy to navigate! If you go to the Nana station, my own apartment building (Adelphi Suites) is about 2 minutes or less from that stop. It may be easiest to just meet somewhere by my apartment... we'll see. Our GTG needs to be on either May 1, 2 or 3 as I leave on the 4th. Again, afternoon is preferred.

Carol, unfortunately there do not appear to be any uprisings that will prevent us from departing BKK late Tuesday night. This too will have to be another GTG that I will miss. Hope to see you again at the Boston GTG in October.

I will be at Marriott on the river, Elephant Bar, at 3:00, give or take a few minutes (depending on shuttle service down the river)... Looking forward to meeting fodorites and connecting hames with faces. DS Brad also plans to come along. It should be great fun.

Bob, that's great! (pssst... I think you got taken) The Marriott will be sooo happy to see you back again (wink wink).
Andy, was that walk from the On Nut BTS station? Just curious. I've done the BTS to On Nut and then a taxi the rest of the way. I know it's not THAT far, but if the temp is 104, like it was yesterday, then you would definitely want that taxi!!
Craig, yes I plan to be in Boston for the Oct GTG. Maybe I can get Brad to come along this next time, although October is typically a month for him in BKK with some sort of printing projects to do.

3:00 - arrived at Marriott on the river. Right on time!
The Elephant Bar happened to be CLOSED... oh dear, but Evelyne was there, waiting. We looked for Leigh Travel, but never found him. Leigh, if you came to the Marriott and didn't find us, I'm really sorry we missed you.
We opted to go into the club lounge for coffee/pop and converstation since the bar was closed. The lounge is right next to the Elephant Bar, and I kept a constant watch for someone who looked like they might be looking for someone they did not know... but never did see Leigh.
Evelyne and DH and their friend were all just as nice as all the other fodorites I've met over the last few years. It's always nice to connect names and faces. It is especially nice to meet a newbie! Evelyne has only been a fodorite for about two weeks, having found this forum right before their trip to BKK, which might not have happened since the Canadian gov't had instituted travel restrictions to Thailand. They really just found out they could make the trip a couple of days before getting on the plane! I'm really glad they got to come to BKK, and I'm glad we got to meet up and say hello. I hope we can meet up again sometime, in BKK or somewhere else.
BTW, Bob and Andy, I told them they need to come to the GTG in BOS in October since they are really quite close (Montreal). So let's encourage them!
Leigh, if you are reading this, I'm really sorry we missed you. Maybe another time...

Evelyne,
Bienvenue!
