Ode to Bangkok Hotels Part 2

I’m back with my Ode, it is part two
And when I am finished I’ll bid you adieu

You know there were those that indeed did fret
By the fact that I did not mention the Somerset

The Grand President & Omni they also include
And so I make mention in this prelude

Serviced apartments they do comprise
For some they make sense I do surmise

To exclude these options would that be remiss?
And do they deliver that 5-star bliss?

Affordable and convenient they may very well be
But I prefer the ambiance of the hotels you see

There are problems in these hotels from time-to-time
Not everything is perfect, not everything is fine

At the Oriental the water is sometimes brown
The cause for which was never found

The Four Seasons is posh, and elegant - all true
It does however lack that important river view

The Marriott has the view; it is certainly 4-star
Some would argue though the boat ride’s too far

A few did stay at the Hilton called Conrad
Their Dim Sum Bob exclaims- “the best he has had!”

The Shangri-La- so close to the BTS station
Can this be the best in this fascinating nation?

So mirror mirror on the wall
Which Hotel is the fairest of all?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Be the hotel new or be it older

Again and again the Penn does outshine
It rises above the rest one more time

My ode is complete and I must take my leave
Have I convinced you all to believe?

Is this the end? Au Contraire
I shall return I do declare!

Alexander Pope is spinning in grave
From the writings of this Houston-bound knave.

Alex mastered the couplet heroic
But reading this stuff, he can't be stoic.

The form is flattered, but not the better
The Pen might cause most to be a debtor.

I read with interest, but I am loyal
Best Hotel-Orchid Sheraton Royal.

You must lust for Starwood points
Why else would you stay in such joints?

Gpanda Aug 20th, 2007 12:04 PM

Excuse me sir,
but I'm the greeter
Who must inform you of misplaced meter.

rhkkmk Aug 20th, 2007 05:23 PM

THE SHERATON SUCKS!!

bill fantastic!!

Kathie Aug 20th, 2007 05:56 PM

Bob, your post doesn't rhyme.

Kathie Aug 20th, 2007 06:46 PM

Bob, I'm awaiting your poetic response.

hawaiiantraveler Aug 20th, 2007 06:58 PM

Bob,
We are ALL awaiting!

Hanuman Aug 20th, 2007 07:09 PM

I beg to differ, this thread I travel
the scriptive art to unravel
who here can write, and who cannot.
Alas! A most talentless lot.

rhkkmk Aug 20th, 2007 07:47 PM

andy has told you how stupid i am so why would you expect poetry that rimes from me???

you got the point didn't you....can you believe i am staying there for 3 nites in june? i am going to drop kathie's name and see if it gets me in the towers or just tossed into the river...

hawaiiantraveler Aug 20th, 2007 07:54 PM

as long as you don't get tossed into the river from the towers I guess its alright, lol

rhkkmk Aug 20th, 2007 08:00 PM

linda would catch me...

hawaiiantraveler Aug 20th, 2007 08:19 PM

There was a young man from Boston he hailed
Whose disdain of the ROS caused him to be jailed

The crime he committed was not that of a fool
All he wanted was a free towers room which was shaped like a pool

When his request was denied off the balcony he threatened to leap
Only to find Linda blocking his way with his favorite cashew nut chicken treat!

Aloha!

rhkkmk Aug 20th, 2007 08:32 PM

not bad...not sure of the rhyme however....you better get to work!! the boss may be watching you....oh, you are the boss....

Gpanda Aug 21st, 2007 04:17 AM

I take issue with Hanuman's vote
Please Bob not with me lump in same boat.
While his prose is exquisite
I'd hate to waste a visit
To the poetry he's learned by rote.

Hanuman Aug 21st, 2007 04:35 AM

Who the hell, unless from boredom,
Will this thread read in -this- lame forum,
Displeasing enough to cause dispair,
By all means hawk your shite elsewhere.

Gpanda Aug 21st, 2007 04:42 AM

Hanuman's quick reply
Is daft, but still found wry.
Though he wrote quite rapid
His verse is not vapid.

Hanuman Aug 21st, 2007 04:55 AM

How pleasant to know Mr. Gpanda,
Who has written such volumes of stuff.
Some think him ill-tempered and queer,
But I find him pleasant enough.

Gpanda Aug 21st, 2007 05:15 AM

Your praise is found so gracious
Unlike Bob the rapacious.
One wonders the difference times
Across the ether these rhymes.

Kathie Aug 21st, 2007 05:31 AM

What a wonderful breakfast treat! Hanuman, you are a worthy competitor for Gpanda!
