October weather in SE Asia: Malaysia or Vietnam or suggestions

Jump to last reply

Hi all. I'm trying to pick a place for our family trip in mid-October during school holidays. We are looking to do a 6 day trip somewhere in Asia (we live in Asia). We narrowed down our choices to Malaysia or Vietnam, before I realized that it will be monsoon season in both. We have traveled quite a bit here, so we were looking at new destinations, not just the major attractions. For example we have been to about every capital city in Asia. Originally, we were thinking of 1. Flying into Kuala Lumpur and driving up to the Cameron Highlands for a few nights, then to Penang for a few nights and driving back down to KL to fly out (we've been to KL and to KK); or 2. Flying into Danang, exploring Hoi An and then spending a few days in Hue (we have been to Hanoi and HCM previously). We are traveling with 6 year olds, but they are really well traveled. We want a mix of resort/culture/activities. How bad do you think the rain would be in these locations? We don't mind a rain shower or two, but we don't want it to be raining the whole day. If not these locations, do you have any suggestions for alternate destinations - not just the usual first time trip itinerary but a second time trip?
Many thanks!
