Northern Vietnam Itinerary

Dear All,
My friend and I will be in Hanoi on 19 Sep(Sat) and leave Hanoi on 27 Sept (Sun). We love nature and beautiful landscape . We' ve few places in mind . We're on budget trip and we will use public transport such as train, bus or motor taxi.
. Please advice us which option is better ?

1. 1 week to visit Ha Giang ( Dong Van Karst Plateu Geopark) , Meo Vac, Muong Hua Valley in Sapa ? or
.
3. 1 week to visit Mu Cang Cai and Sapa ? or

4. 1 week to visit Dong Can and Meo Vac and Mu Cang Cai

You will be there in the days leading up to the Mid-Autumn Festival, Tet Trung Thu!! This is supposed to be a very exciting time , lots of local celebrations.
No advice on itinerary--I'm still in planning phase for my trip to north VN--similar time to yours.

Great question. DOn't know the answe. Perhaps post on an additonal travel forum. However, you will be there on weekends, when particular hotels might have fewer available rooms in a place like Sapa.

Mid-Autumn Festivel is a big celebration in Vietnam; all over Northern Vietnam is colorful with decorative multi-coloured lantern, lion dances, traditional pie and sticky rice cake. Because of festival everywhere, you can book train ticket is quite easy. Don't be worried.
However, you wil see yellow rice-terraces at Dong Van, Sapa, Mu Cang Chai in the middle of September. It is reallt breathbreaking scenery that you are certainly unresisting.
And I think you can travel Mu Cang Chai + Sapa in one week.
Good luck to you!

Hi,

I'd been away for some time because of the busy schedule. Thank you for the feedback especially to CaliNurse and Jualia. I'm afraid I ve to save Ha Giang for my next trip (Poblems : time constraint and transport ) . We plan to focus on Mu Cang Chai and Sapa as both are scenic according to the travellers.
Below is our tentative itinerary and we would like to get advice from experienced travellers.

19 Sept (Sat) Hanoi
20 Sept (Sun) bus to Nghia Lo
21 Sept (Mon) Mu Cang Chai
22 Sept (Tues) Mu Cang Chai
23 Sept (Wed) Sapa
24 Sept (Thurs) Sapa
25 Sept (Fri) Overnight train to Hanoi
26 Sept (Sat) Hanoii
27 Sept ( Sun) FLy home

We mainly travel by public transport such as train, bus and motorbike taxi. Kindly advice. ..
