North Thailand tour -help

we will be glad to get review, recommendation or advice about a guided professional tour in English, 1 day tour in Golden triangle area, depart from Chiangrai during 11.2006, made by reliable travel agency. First night staying in Chiangrai hotel
At the second day we want to depart from Chiangrai to Chiangmai, interested to visit some of the hill tribes(long neck).
Another alternative- in the second morning, separate tour or transfer from Chiangrai to Chiangmai
Thanks in advance.

Have you looked at the Anantara Golden Triangle or the Four Seasons Tented Camp? They both offer tours and they can both arrange to get you to Chaing Mai. I do hope you have more than 1 night planned in the Golden Triangle area...otherwise, you might want to just base yourself in Chiang Mai and do a day trip...that is assuming you have more time booked in Chiang Mai.

thanks.i looked.those 2 places are very expensive

The Four Seasons is very expensive, yes, but the Anantara is not nearly so much.

Maybe for what you want you should hire a driver to take you from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai with some stops along the way. That can easily be arranged once you are there with either your hotel or one of the many travel agents. Adding a qualified guide to that will increase the price.

A customized tour will not be inexpensive but would be much more tailored to your needs than a set one in a group. I don't like tours because they inevitably take you to shops and restaurants where the guide gets a commission and tend to spend less time than I'd like actually seeing or doing anything other than riding in the car/bus or shopping or eating. I much prefer to pay the bit extra and have the luxury of our own car and driver and the freedom to go where we like when we like.

If you want to join a tour, you might consider SmarTours...they get fine reviews. Someone also recommended Innovasion to you on your other question, and I think they night be just what you are looking for. Did you contact them?

The best way to tour the Golden triangle area from Chiang Rai is to have your hotel arrange for a car/driver/guide for the day. Should cost around $50-75. I would spend at least 2 nights in the town so as not to be rushed. To get to Chiang Maia the cheapest is by a/c bus, next by car/driver or by taking the boat to Thaton athen bus or taxi to CM.
Good accommodations at under $75 in CR.
