North-east trip planning: Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura... WHERE TO GO??
Ciao, I write you from Italy. I am staring my planningn exercise for next trip, North-east India from Kolkata that will be our arrival airport from Italy. I can afford a 4 weeks stay in India; we alredy "booked" 1 week in Sikkim and 1 week in Andamans islands. I am thinking to spend 10 days in far est States BUT I find we few information of these destinations. Please, can someone give my any advice / help in defining where is "best" to go? We (me and my Wife) like to visit places with tradidinal cultures, wildlife, few tourists... in few words! Grazie, arrivederci.

Don't forget Kolkata and Darjeeling, or Bhutan, just next door Gianni... or Nepal. They are all closer to Sikkim than Nagaland.
Assam: These two sites will start you off.

GRAZIE!
For sure we'll spend some days in Kolkata, ... Buthan looks to be too expensive!
Nagaland and the other far east territories are less impacted by tourism... this is for me a good reason to try to plan a visit! But I would like to have some adivices...
Thanks again, arrivederci.

You need special permits to go to Nagaland.
Do you have a copy of the Lonely Planet North East India guide? I found it very helpful as I was making decisions about where to go. We're going to Sikkim and Darjeeling this year.

shonty2010 [or should that be shonky2010] has added immensely to the debate with details of his/her hotel chain in Kanyakumari.
If you took a map and wanted to find the furthest possible place from N.E. India, you'd end up in Kanyakumari. It's at the southern tip of Tamil Nadu.
So thanks again, shonky2010. You are a real asset to Fodors.
