For those of you who have used Ratt in Bangkok...how long does he usually take to reply emails? I sent him one 2 days ago and I haven't heard anything yet....I read on the forum that Somphret is good as well..any other backups I should know about? Would love to get some contact details...
thanks...

It's now a long 4 day holiday in Thailand. Also the taiwan Eathquake caused cable problems and internet/email from SE Asia is not so hot at the moment, those are probably the reasons.

A friend of mine in Kuala Lumpur told me yesterday that his office was without internet for 4-5 days. Also, sometimes over the years I used Ratt she got so busy she answerred a group of emails 2 or 3 days later than sent. Not good business but she is a small operation and is a driver/guide not a business person with an Admin. person.

Just got a reply from Sompret..he quoted Baht1800 for a return trip..is that a good price for those of you who have used a driver only to the floating market?

rhkkmk Dec 31st, 2006 07:07 AM

that's less than $50 ...i would think that good

shelleyk Dec 31st, 2006 07:20 AM

1800 baht plus expressway tolls is what I was recently quoted to go to and return from the floating market(for about 5 hours).

Can anyone recall how long the drive is? Is it too rushed to get back to the city for lunch? I would think 1 hour at the market is sufficient?

rhkkmk Jan 1st, 2007 03:44 PM

i think the drive is about 1.5 hours...each way

The going rate is 1500-1600 Baht for 5 hours and the floating market takes 75-90 minutes to get to. Folks say toleave BK at 7 AM. That is NOT necessary. If you leave at 8-8:15 you will be there before 9:30 and it is still very hustle-busltle for many more hours. But you only want 60-90 minutes there taking a boat on the river through the market (be careful what you eat) so you leave the market before it is too warm and you are back in BK before 1 PM.
