Nikko or any other suggestion for day trip from Tokyo?
Hi. I am thinking of going to Nikko overnight and maybe stay at a Ryokan so the kids can sleep on tatami mats. We are only going to be in Tokyo a few days before we head to Beijing. We are traveling with 2 six your olds and I am trying to see some temples or nice areas outside of Tokyo. Is it worth going to NIKKO or does anyone have any suggestions of someplace else to see which may be similar to Nikko.
It has been 17 years since I have been to Nikko with a high school trip and I am sure that it has really changed. I am open to any suggestions. Thanks, Heather |
Hi Hlester3, are your africa photos still up to be viewed?
I'd like to see the Shompole and Mnemba pics but cant seem to enter that website. I m also goign to tokyo in 3 weeks..cant wait. |
Nikko is a great place to visit. Another town would be Kamakura which is very popular for day trip. |
Alejandra - If you send me your e-mail I would be happy to send you the link. I don't think they are up anymore, I ended up downloading everything at costco.com.
KMLoke - Hi. Thank you for the suggestion. I also came to the same conclusion, it seems that Kamakura is much closer and easier to reach. So we will probably end up there. Since we are thinking of a combined trip to Japan & China, I am guilty of shaving off a few days in Japan since there are so many things I have not seen in China, since I have never been. |
Kamakura is an easy train ride from Tokyo. There is a ton to see - several shrines, temples & the big buddha. It is also pretty compact...you can walk to most places from the train station.

Nikko or Hakone would be more suitable for an overnight visit, while Kamakura is solidly a day-trip destination (heck, many people commute daily to Tokyo from there). Still a lovely town.
