Nice article on Macau in the NYT
I just ran across this article this morning
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/30/tr...ide-nyt-region We enjoyed our day in Macau a number of years ago. Like the author of this article, we have no interest in the casinos, but very much enjoyed historical Macau. Also, as he notes, hotels are MUCH cheaper in Macau. |
Thanks, Kathie. I hope to take a day trip to Macau when I'm in HK in January.
|
When we were in HK in 2010 after a trip to India I did not plan enough time for HK let alone Macua so its good to know theres more to it than the Las Vegas of Asia.
I also did not know it used to be Portuguese. I had assumed it was British. Sill me. I would to go back there some day too as what we saw we really liked. Thank you for the article Kathie and how is your shoulder? |
Hi Larry, my shoulder is slowly getting better. Hooray for physical therapy! I'm home now after three weeks in Palm Springs, which was very beneficial for my shoulder. Thanks for asking.
Macau is fun - one of our favorite memories is of a meal at Fernando's. The menus were in Chinese and Portuguese and the wine list consisted of a wall of wines on shelves. We had a wonderful meal for a fraction of the cost of a meal in Hong Kong. |
Good old PT otherwise known as Pain and Torture. :D. Seriously it does a lot of good and really is necessary after certain surgeries. Not doing it can lead to long term detriment.
If we are ever in Macao we will try that place though I hope some menus are in English as well. I am not into wine pairings with meals. For me a nice draft IPA does it with dinner but I am quite partial to reds, especially Cabernet Sauvignons. Cheers, |
Those wonderful egg custard tarts in Hong Kong are from Portugese Pateis de Belem, and most likely traveled to HK from Macau.

We went on a self-guided walking tour of Macau. The mixture of Portuguese and Chinese sites (and food) was fascinating. The ferry was packed on the way back, so my younger son sat next to an older Chinese lady with a bunch of groceries. When she smiled at him, he whispered to me that he was inviting himself to her house for dinner.
Oh, and don't forgot to take your passport if you go on the ferry. Kathie, thank you for posting and glad you are recovering nicely. |
