NEX vs Limousine bus from NRT
I will be staying in Tokyo for 4 nights next March.
I am trying to decide between Prince Park Tower and Park Hotel Tokyo (price about same). I am trying to make the transportation from NRT to hotel as simple as possible. Which of these hotels would fit the bill better? With the NEX or the Limo bus? Also, which of these 2 hotels would you recommend and why? Any help is appreciated. |
We're staying at the Prince Park Tower in a few weeks. We're taking the bus (door to door). NEX will only take you so far and you'll have to change trains, etc.. with luggage. After a long flight to a new country, I don't want to lug bags and navigate the subway during rush hour (5ish). What time will you be arriving?

We'll be arriving to Tokyo in the early afternoon on a Sunday (? less traffic?) from Manila. The more I think about it, the more I like the Limo option for he reasons you mentioned.
I would like to hear your opinion on the hotel after your stay there. Thanks. |
The Park Hotel Tokyo was wonderful (we stayed in April 2008). Tricky to get to using public transport (it's easy though if you know where you are going!)

I plan on giving a full trip report and I'll let you know how the bus works out and the hotel. I've heard many good things about the Prince Park and was able to snag a premium room w/ balcony, spa, and daily breakfast for a great price + I like how it's kinda isolated near a park. I know, I said isolated in Tokyo. We are actually arriving on a Monday, I was aiming for Sunday but I didn't realize you lose a day coming from the US. :-p

So, I'm at the Prince Park Tower now and must say it's a fine one at that. I have a 31 floor room (only 33 floors) and the views are amazing! The hotel sits away from other tall buildings so there is a nice view all around including Tokyo Tower across the street. The service is great, love the staff. If your in a premium room on the top floors you will have full access to the spa & fitness, breakfast buffet, & evening lounge with free cocktails/bevs + food. The gym is top notch with plenty of nice equipment and staff on hand. The breakfast is great but can be expensive if it's not included in the room. The lounge area overlooks the tower is same where breakfast is so great views and it's usually just a couple of people so very quiet. The room and bathroom amenities are A++ . If there any specifics your curious about let me know .....
There are 2 subway stations nearby, each are on a different line which is good. Shibakoen is the closest (exit A4), you don't have to cross any streets with the walk only 5 min max. The other station is Akabanebashi which is the same walking distance but you have to cross through a busy intersection so it could take 5-8 min or so. OK, so about THE BUS! I won't go into all the details but the Limo Bus counter was the first thing we saw when exiting out of customs into the general crowd into a sea of people waiting for loved ones to arrive. With tickets in hand, we had 4 min to catch the bus which was just outside the door. A bus arrived every min so it's best not to put your luggage out there until the bus (shiba area) comes up on screen as the next one. I would look up the bus times as well because if we hadn't got that one bus we would have waited an hour for the next one. The bus ride itself wasn't great mainly because the seats were very small and terrible. I'm not a big person either. We ran into some rush hour traffic, the Prince Park Tower is the 2nd to last top, driver seemed to be driving slow, and it was really hot and stuffy and took roughly 1 hr 40 min. If your arriving on Sunday there may not be any traffic but I counted the time in traffic around 10-15 min only. We arrived at the hotel and the bell hop came to pick up the luggage and once inside you go sit down while your checked in. Your pampered the moment you walk through the door. So while the bus was really uncomfortable it prob wouldn't have saved us alot of time taking the train + after riding the subways I'm so glad we didn't try hauling the luggage on there. The subways are crowded all the time. I hope this helps... |
Hmmm...I recommend the Limobus. I don't find it uncomfortable at all, the bus is air conditioned, the seats aren't that small and they recline some, and there are foot rests. Pick up a snack inside the terminal, buy some drinks at the vending machines located outside by the bus stands for the ride. The Limobus will pick you up and drop you at the front doorstep of your hotel.
As mentioned, you don't need to show up too early for your bus. There are buses arriving ever minute at each bus stand. You only need to go to your designated bus stand 5 or so minutes ahead of time. Don't line up until you see your bus number appear on the screen. Riding the bus is a great way to relax and recompose yourself after a long flight, immigration, customs, before checking in to your hotel. I highly recommend it as the way to go. |
