New Years festivities ...Tokyo?

Will be in Japan for 2 weeks starting 12/29/03. Wondering if there are any special places to be in Japan for New Years Eve or is Tokyo the place?

I've been looking up on the same thing since I'll be there during that period too. I've read from various sites and guidebooks that the Japanese visit temples and shrines on New Years Eve to pay their respect. Apparently the biggest and most crowded in Tokyo is the Meiji Shrine, supposed to be a lot of fun.

Other than that it's the usual bars and clubs in areas like Shinjuku, Shibuya and Roppongi.

Anyone has other suggestions?
