New Year's Eve Dinner in Yangon, where?

My family and I(chd 24 and 17 year old)are spending New Year's Eve in Yangon. We are staying at The Savoy. Does anyone have an idea where we could have a special dinner for that occasion? Is the restaurant in the hotel good or would be nice to go somewhere else?
THANKS again!!!

I think you WILL have to attend the hotel's new year dinner/party which they will probably charge you around $50 - $70 per head.

The Savoy sir!

Le Planteur, a French restaurant, is considered the best restaurant in Yangon by far.

We ate at the restaurant at the Savoy and it was fine - a broad selection with some very creative and expensive offerings (which we did not try).

You might try e-mailing the Savoy to see if there is any New Years dining requirement.

we also ate at the savoy and found it mediocre at best...

Have you heard about L'Opera Restaurant? I've read there is another L'Opera in BKK.
Any info about this Italian restaurant will be great!!!

Yes, there are L'Opera restaurants in both Bangkok and Yangon - same owner. As Bob says above it is an Italian restaurant with a good reputation in Yangon.

I would eat at L'Opera or at Le Planteur before dining at the Savoy for a special occasion such as New Years. We only ate at the Savoy because we were too bushed to go out and as I said before, it was fine.

i'm sorry, i confuse the strand and the savoy....i have not eaten at the savoy...

i believe the two restaurants are run by brothers or cousins....the one is yangon the owner is italian and his wife is local....we found it to be a refreshing change in both atmosphere and in the food presented....even the pizza was fantastic....we took our driver there the last day beacuse he had never had pizza---he liked it...

i know, gpanda would have taken his driver to the french restaurant for dinner and filet, or so he would have you think....remember this is the guy whose brother feels a 10B tip is overdoing it....

I'm surprised your hotel isn't slinging you the obligatory New Year's Eve surcharge.

I'd be heading off to the Strand in town [although, I suspect that N.Y.E. in Yangon may not be quite the glittering spectacle you're hoping for].

Le Planteur is good but not great. We ate there on Jan 2 2007 and they seated everybody in the garden alfresco style. The only problem was all sort of loud noises from around the neighbourhood which kind of ruined the atmosphere. You could eat there and go back to celebrate at the Savoy later especially if they are forcing you to pay for the new year party or dinner.
