Firstly, you don’t have to use the same photo as your passport. Any passport style photo will do - plain background, looking forward, no glasses, no smiling etc. I just took a normal photo at home and uploaded to my iPad. Same with the photo page of your passport, take a photo or scan it and save to your pc or tablet.
When you get to this page : https://immigration.gov.vn/en_US/web...et_view=insert
Click on the boxes at the top for your photo and passport and your photo library or browse box will come up. Click on that and find your photo and click upload.
When you submit your application don’t forget to make a note or screen shot of the reference number as you will need it when you go back to the sight to download your evisa NB they do not send an email confirmation to confirm the issue of the visa. You need to go back in a day or two to check. Don’t do it over a weekend as it takes ages!
Good luck!

Like a dumbass I didn't do this yet and I leave Jan 9 and arrive Jan 10. Am I SOL? I live in DC, do I have options?
Also when I go to the Vietnam USA embassy they have a site on their own website for the visa... looks official on their site...

No you are not SOL! You can apply for an evisa @ https://immigration.gov.vn/en_US/web...i-thuc-dien-tu as long as you don’t need a multiple entry visa and your trip is for less than 30 days. Ignore any other websites
NB They are closed for the New Year 31/12 & 01/01 . The process takes 24-48 hours but you must make a note of your ref. No. And go back to the site to check. They do NOT send you an email confirmation. When issued just print it off and take it with you, arrive at immigration and you are in!
The alternative is to get a visa approval letter from many of the agencies that provide them. They can issue them for stays of up to three months and for multiple entries and, if you pay extra, produce them within 24 hours. I can try and find de5ails of the agency I used if you need it. Let me know.
It is usually easier to apply using a MacBook or computer rather than a phone or tablet. You just need your dates, ports of entry and exit, passport details and an passport sized photo on a plain background ( doesn’t have to be your actual passport photo.
Basically DONT PANIC! . Enjoy your trip.

Thank you Crellston! If I do this tomorrow night (Jan 1 night, my time) it will be 12 hours ahead and so Jan 2 morning (Wednesday in Vietnam) so fingers crossed I'll have it by Friday my time?
I might need the visa approval letter as backup! Is that in lieu of the actual visa?
Thank you whew! I still am nervous though. Can I take an iPhone photo of me for the photo, and I guess they need one of my passport too?

well it is sent!! fingers crossed!! It was very easy to apply and I took a photo of every single website page after I filled things in lol
I have my registration code and I will be very relieved if I get it before I go to sleep Friday night.
My photo is plain background no glasses but you can see my teeth - not EXACTLY a smile but not lips closed either.
THANK YOU CRELLSTON!!
