It's not often you can get 50% discount a the top hotels in Thailand(with included breakfast too) and I've heard that a few will be joining this campaign as well.

Thank you Hanuman - I'm sorting out for a trip in June so will be looking out for these. Hoping for some good airfares for the anniversary too! The last couple of weeks there have been some good fares (from Australia) but they are finished now - usually get some good ones again in March/April.

Thank you Hanuman - will keep checking - would be great to be able to use a good deal! We are being indecisive about where to go this trip. Bangkok of course and maybe Chiang Mai as we haven't been for ages. So we'll look at all the deals and choose what looks appealing. I've been looking at the Ratilanna in CM since you mentioned it recently - that looks nice.

Once again Super-Spy Hanuman proves that he is THE MAN in Bankok. A casual observer with Google search might note that S.S. Hanuman has scooped the pool, world-wide, with this information.

Of course, you have to FLY Thai to get the cheapo rates, I'd assume...

I must report that my BKK to Melbourne flight a fortnight ago, business class, was, as usual, misery incarnate.

'Horrible,' said Dog, as he pushed his dinner away, 'bring me one hundred glass of wine and a suicide pill.'

'He-he-he-he-he-heee' went the glamorous hostess, as she swept my dry pork brick away.

The seat back was broken and I 'slept' with a hunchback lump protruding into my ribs. Then my nose fell off from boredom.

Luckily, that meant I couldn't smell breakfast. Breakfast is traditionally the worst meal on any plane; Thai proudly maintain that tradition.

Happy birthday, Thai Airways. Now that you're 50, don't you think it's time to learn how to cook an omelette?

Dog... I feel you pain , i had similarly grim food on EVA this week. I actually gagged when i opened it... (although i wasn't flying my usual biz class where the food is actually pretty good - Premium eonomy home alas....)

Dogster,

I shall report your plight during the next board meeting. They always have an excuse like our planes don't have a good galley, or we don't have a proper heating unit for the food blah, blah....

Actually Hanuman you can tell them their special meals need a bit of work too please - I need to be gluten free - the only time I've had anything resembling decent food was when I rang the chef in Australia and had a whinge (Aussies are good at that) - was travelling (Biz) Perth Bangkok and got really good food. I suppose the thing to do is ring up each time but I always live in hope and feel bad about hounding them. It doesn't work at all ringing in Bangkok or for that matter even asking whats in the food! Often they give the dreadful stuff to some other poor unsuspecting passenger and I dip out altogether which is probably a bonus.

Nevertheless I continue to fly with them as its the best direct flight out of Perth.

Mary,

Trust me when I tell you that food quality and taste is one of the biggest complaint lodge against Thai Airways. However, I don't work for Thai Airways but I've been invited to sit on what they call the "Passenger Board". We meet quarterly with the executive board and let loose with all our complaints. At least I get a free meal after the meeting but sadly the food are from the Thai Airways catering kitchen which surprisingly tasted very good when served in front of the executives!

After our last meeting we've managed to get the airways to stop upgrading the VIPs and every upgrade must now be reported directly to the President. All seats on the new, but hugely delayed, A380s have been cancelled and they will look for a new and better seats. The galley will have state of the art heating and chilling units so the food should be better.

LOL Hanuman. I'm sure you will be truly wonderful on that Passenger Board - well Thai may get fairly upset with you all but we will love you for it!

Hopefully one day I'll get on the A380 but for now Thai is still running its A 330's on Perth route - old seats in business and pretty ordinary all round but still its only a fairly short flight so I'll still be doing it. That said its still one of the better alternatives.

Pook, when was the last time you tasted the food on domestic US carriers? Total trash. Or, we've been on cross country flights with no food. Thai Air puts them to shame.

Andy,

It has been a few years but I did find the food on Continental quite acceptable. Thai Airways was the first to offer business class service and seats in Asia but sadly those very ground breaking planes are still in service - the A300s! For an international flight in premium class I give a big thumbs up to Cathay, Qantas, Qatar and Etihad. They seem to know what taste good at 30,000 feet and how to serve the food BUT they are way more expensive then Thai!

yeah - that really is just it. If I fly Qantas or Singapore it will cost me at least 50% or often more than if I take Thai. So a not wonderful meal is not really a big deal. Mind you Thai used to discount the Perth fare a lot because of the route/planes but they have put the biz price up such a lot lately that it really is a stretch to bother about. So I'm always on the look out for their sales which make it a bit more reasonable and worthwhile paying the extra over economy.

>>>New Promotion from Thai Airways for hotels from May - June 2010<<<

Many thanks for the opening post, 'monkey god'! (And just between us: this SIA Loyalist thinks the world of TG's First Class service exx-BKK (love those massages) to Hong Kong and Narita and back. (Well, when TG isn't up to the ol' 'equipment swaps'! Sorry, couldn't resist.)

(And will add: my all-time cherished TG hostess is still working F on a certain TG NRT-BKK sector - and, as always, please don't tell the better half.)

Keep up the good work hanuman, and for all of you in family friendly fodorland, do kindly consider SQ - thank you. (Must say, rather fine SQ J SIN-BKK, SIN-NRT (love those A380s), and SIN-ICN-SFO work trips of late - smooth SQ rides to you.)

In truth, the Continental flights we took to and from Shanghai were very good in both service and food. Of course, I took a short hop on Continental here in the states that was subpar.

Dogster, you're home at last? Hope Mel-bn isn't too boring for you. I'll be in SYD for a week in mid March.

Airline food... I usually only eat the salad starter plate and dessert and a glass or two of red wine when in biz class. They always ask "No entre? Are you sure you don't want a meal?" (I'm sure)

I recall that I had a really tasty meal on Swiss last December from ZRH to ORD in biz. I also got a free BOX of Swiss chocolates, not just the "one" piece one usually gets.

Swiss also has the right idea of quickly serving a light meal for those who want to go to sleep (also in biz) as soon as they can.
