New pop up ads
Unfortunately these new pop up ads are really slowing down loading, I wish when tech people do things like this they would appreciate that not everyone everywhere has latest high speed access, there are many places where speeds are like 28kps and often in reality that can mean 14kps, having to wait for pages to laod is tiresome, I wish they would make them small, low graphic and certainly not come 'across' in front of posts. A couple of other forums do this and the few times I look back at those the number of posts are minimal, without 'us' there would be no forum.

One of these should help:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...upblocker.mspx http://channels.netscape.com/ns/search/install.jsp |
I find them a pain, period and wish they would permanently disappear. Happy Travels!

i eliminated all pop ups by installing a norton personal firewall about one year ago...i get none now....US cost about $19.....

i live out in the rainforest on Maui and do not have access to highspeed internet...these popups are making it most difficult to see this forum. they cover my screen and take forever to go away.
i have a mac...what can i do?? |
To everyone - go to www.mozilla.org and download a FREE copy of the "Firefox" web browser. It will not interfere with your Internet Explorer browser and it has a built-in pop-up blocker. It is also available in a MacIntosh version. It has nifty features like tabbed browsing (internet windows arranged in a series of tabs) and it is less vulnerable to security problems than Internet Explorer. DO IT NOW!! - You won't regret it.

I know how Divediva feels, although we technically have 'high speed' often it is down to much less than 28kps. We 'did' have pop up blockers but the problem we had was that some sites ( including a great deal of local Thai sites ) use pop-ups to log in and also pop-ups to deffine language, we had some problems because we were blocking the pop ups, big buisance when some seem to drag across the whole text.
I guess someone 'new' visiting the site could speedily click 'off' and just go to another forum site, I think we agree nothing wrong with ads but just wish they were positioned fairly and not in such an annoying/poor design way. |
I have the free popup blockers enabled with both my Netscape browser and IE. Am using Windows XP Home with SP2. One of the blockers, maybe both, notify you when a popup is blocked and you are given an option of unblocking it.
I just enabled popups at fodors.com to appear in my Netscape browser and don't see popups. Maybe you are referring to the banner adds that appear to the right of the message? "Bali spectacular $12.95" No way to stop them, I think. |
I second Craig's suggestion. I've been using Firefox for several months now and have never gotten a pop up, or pop under for that matter, which are just as annoying. For those of you who can't part with IE, there are plenty of free pop-up blockers out there. Try shareware.com or Tucows.com or search on Google.
