New Marriott hotel/serviced apartment complex on Sukhumvit, soi 57
What do you think about this place? Brand new? Special rates!! I can get an apartment with washing machine for $120 on hotels dot com. Sounds too good to be true. Maybe this is a grand opening special? Has anyone been here yet? I see that the adjoining hotel has a nice rooftop bar! I always enjoy that scene.

I saw it just before I left Bangkok in Feb. It's within sight of the Thonglor BTS station. It's a new building, not one of the old hotels acquired from Imperial. I didn't get a chance to see inside, but I assume it's up to Marriott standard.
|
i looked at it for my upcoming trip as well as at the next door hotel.
at 3500B it seems a good price.. soi 55 is a fun street to be on with lots of restaurants and shops... skytrain is there as mbkk says.. we stayed 2 years ago at the pan pacific svc apts nearby and liked it... very easy to the airport from there as maybe soi 59 has direct access to the expressway.. we still like marriott sukhumvit park on soi 24 down the road from emporium---you met us there last fall... i think prices are similar, maybe even a hair cheaper.. they honor platinum status, but some svc apts do not.. |
Bob, what do you mean by "they honor platinum status..." Do you get upgrades and/or free wifi? If NOT honored, do you pay for the wifi??
I hesitate because this Marriott is a bit away from soi 15 area. But it should be easy to take the BTS until it closes down, and then taxi 'back out' to soi 57. Michael, thanks for the info about the BTS station nearby. I was hoping you would jump in here. Hope things are going OK for you. |
some serviced apts don't honor any status with upgrades etc, incl wifi... otherwise you pay. i did note that they (soi 55) don't offer any AAA or AARP discounts, which most marriotts do..
i would check with them.. |
I just booked 4 nts at this place. Hope it isn't too far away for me. The good thing is that it's a quick (???) zip down Sukhumvit without having to cross to the other side of the road! The rooftop bar at the connecting Marriott Hotel looks neat!!

Do report back to us, Carol.
(I can't believe I won't be in Bangkok two years in a row - I'm having Bangkok withdrawal!) |
i think you will enjoy poking around soi 55---lots to do there...
|
I'm looking forward to poking around "new" territory, Bob.
Kathie, yes, of course I'll do my usual 'live' reporting so you will get details of the new Marriott. What I really like is that it is pretty much right ON Sukhumvit, and not some long walk down a narrow soi (or by tuk tuk) to reach. Makes it much handier for BTS and taxis. |
soi 55 is a very busy street too
|
I know I've said I would NEVER want to stay on Sukhumvit soi 6 because of the unhandy traffic pattern for taxis, BUT, I'm thinking I might stay at Pachara Suites my last 5 nights. It gets good reviews. Rooms are fairly new, as the building has been renovated extensively just a couple of years ago. Anyone from the fodorite community stayed there yet?
|
i've been stuck once on that cut through and was late to an appointment..
i'd look elsewhere... how come no adelphi this trip? |
Just trying new places, that's all. Still may end up at Adelphi those last five nights. Leaning towards a try at Pachara though. Not a bad walk to BTS if I cut thru to soi 8. Closer to Omni where others will be staying. The taxi situation at 4am would be fine, when heading out to the airport. No appts at this time, so no chance of being late. Pachara has balconies, and Fox News. I want to toss the TV out the window when all I get is biased CNN and BBC. Sorry to those who get all their news from the left. Anyway, a serious consideration this trip.
|
Regarding getting CNN- I actually like getting CNN while in Asia because they cover the world and you really get some interesting perspectives on what is happening around the world- you really don't get that in the US.
