New flights BKK-Langkawi and also Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai, Phrae and Pai

Air Asia have just started 3 x weekly flights BKK-Langkawi, 1 hr 35 mins flight. This this might be of interest to some.

SGA Aero who already do the Hua Hin Air Shuttle are stating flights from Feb:

Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai B 2,100 o/w ( 1,900 in Mar and Apr )
Chiang mai - Pai B 1,450 o/w
Chiang Mai - Phrae B 1,600 0/w promo

The flights to Pai might be intestering!

Aircraft are 12 seater Cessna Caravans

Thanks James: The new air asia flight is interesting and a cheap way of getting there for those interested. The SGA flights I don't know. Air Andaman (if still operating) already has 2 flights a day between CM/CR at only 925 baht net. The Pai flight might take off although most going there take the road.

Air Andaman ceased operations several years back as far as I know.

It was probably because of that fare !!

Nok Air do Mae Hong Son from Chiang Mai using ex-Thai ATR42's.
It's strange, I remember maybe 10 years back when there were plenty of flights from CM to CR and MHS when Thai did the flights.

Given all that's happened recently, how far in advance should one arrive at the Chiang Mai airport to fly to BKK? Are security lines worse? Is it a very large/busy airport? Thanks - Claire

Great information! Thanks! We were looking at having to drive from CM to CR; this gives us a good alternative!

Someone just did a 'pre-launch' flight from Chiang Mai to Pai, the report was 'good', the flight only took about 20 minutes and the cost is B 1,450 one way ( roughly USD 41 ) so reasonable, they did the return by 'raod' which took hours and as they emphasised those bends etc they voted the 20 minute flight a clear winner.
Just remember it's a 12 seater single engine but they have been doing the Bangkok-Hua hin air shuttle 4 x daily for quite a time now.
